The Most Reliable Free Tool for EGS7 (GEN3) ISN Reset.
We are proud to present the latest and most advanced version, EGS7 (GEN3) ISN Resetter v1.3. This free community tool has been continuously updated to become the definitive solution for reading the ISN from and resetting used 7-speed EGS7 GEN3 transmission control units found in modern BMWs.What Problem Does This Tool Solve?
When swapping a gearbox with a used unit, the EGS (transmission controller) is locked with the ISN (Individual Serial Number) from the donor car. This security mismatch prevents the EGS from working in the new vehicle until it has been "virginized."
This tool reliably reads the ISN from an EEPROM dump of the used EGS and then guides you through the process of resetting it using standard BMW software, making the used unit adaptable to the new car.
This version incorporates all previous updates and adds new logic, making it the most powerful version yet:
- 100% ISN Detection: All known patterns for ISN data within the EEPROM have been added. The software now guarantees a successful ISN read from any valid EGS7 GEN3 dump.
- Universal Programmer Support: Fully compatible with EEPROM dumps created by any major programming tool, including Flex, PCMFlash, Bflash, and others.
- Flexible EEPROM Handling: The software correctly processes both full and partial (only EEPROM) file dumps.
- Streamlined 2-Step Process: A simple and clear workflow guides you from loading the EEPROM file to generating the final Tool32 command for the ISN reset.
How The Process Works
The workflow is straightforward and guided by the software:
Step 1: Read EEPROM & Extract ISN
- Read the full EEPROM from the used EGS7 GEN3 unit with your preferred programmer.
- Open the Resetter software and load the EEPROM file. The tool will instantly detect and display the full ISN.
- Connect to the vehicle's OBD port using an ENET Cable or ICOM.
- The software will guide you to use the "Run Command" button, which executes a job in Tool32 using the GSGE01QW.prg file.
- This command performs the ISN reset, making the EGS unit "virgin" and ready for coding to the new vehicle.
System Requirements & Testing
- Operating System: This software has been fully tested and confirmed to be stable on Windows 10 LTSC 2019. It is also expected to work on other versions like Windows 7, 8, and 11.
- Required Hardware: An EEPROM programmer, plus an ENET Cable or ICOM for vehicle connection.
- Required Software: BMW Standard Tools (specifically, Tool32).
Disclaimer
This is a powerful tool intended for professional use. Always create a backup of your original EEPROM data before making any changes. Incorrect use can damage the TCU. Use at your own risk.
