BMW EWS Editor v3.2.0
is a classic, powerful software utility designed for professionals and enthusiasts working with the BMW immobilizer systems found in vehicles from the 1990s and early 2000s. It provides a direct interface for reading, editing, and writing the data stored in EWS 2, EWS 3, and EWS 4 modules.

What Problem Does This Tool Solve?

The EWS (Elektronische Wegfahrsperre) is the heart of the security system in older BMWs. It stores key data and the rolling code synchronization with the engine computer (DME). When keys are lost, a new key needs to be added, or an EWS or DME module is replaced, this data needs to be read, edited, or synchronized.

This tool provides a simple graphical interface to perform all these tasks, reading the data directly from the module or from an EEPROM dump.

Key Features
  • Read & Write EWS Data: Directly read and write all data from a connected EWS module.
  • Load & Save BIN Files: Work offline by loading an EEPROM dump (`.bin` file) from an EWS module, editing it, and saving the modified file.
  • Key Management: Clearly displays the status of all 10 key slots, showing which are used, locked, or available. Allows for reading and writing data for individual keys.
  • VIN & Odometer Editing: View and modify the VIN and mileage stored in the EWS module.
  • EWS <=> DME Synchronization: View and manage the synchronization data (password, sync signal) between the EWS and the DME.
  • Automatic EWS Detection: Includes an "Auto" mode to automatically detect the connected EWS type.

How to Use
  1. Connect Interface: Connect your EWS programmer hardware to the PC and the EWS module (or its processor).
  2. Launch Software: Open the EWS Editor software and select the correct COM port. Click "Update" to establish a connection. The device serial number and firmware version should appear at the bottom.
  3. Read Data: Select the EWS type (or leave on "Auto") and click "Read EWS". The software will populate all fields with the data from the module.
  4. Edit & Write: Make your necessary changes (e.g., adding key data, changing VIN). Use the "Write EWS" or "Read/Write" (for individual keys) buttons to save the changes back to the module.
  5. Verify: Use the "Verify" function to confirm that the data has been written correctly.

System Requirements & Hardware
  • Operating System: This is an older application designed for Windows XP/7 but has been tested and confirmed to be stable on Windows 10 LTSC 2019.
  • Required Hardware: A compatible EWS programmer interface is required (e.g., a device from autotools.com or a similar K-Line based programmer).
