VCAP Interpreter is a GM European Aftersales Engineering utility used to display and analyze information contained in a VCAP file. A VCAP (Vehicle wide Capture of Module Identification) is created by a Type 4 application in TIS2Web, which requests identification data from multiple controllers and stores the result in a single capture file.
The tool is intended for SPS focused troubleshooting and service programming analysis, including controller identification, programming state overview, vehicle information decoding, and diagnostic summary data. The interface is divided into three main areas: Path and Options, List of Controllers, and Controller Details.

Compatibility notes
- VCAP content depends on the vehicle, controller set, and the Type 4 capture process in TIS2Web
- RPO data is requested from the TIS2Web RPO database and may be empty if VIN data is missing in the database
- XML data is available only for ECUs that provide an XML module for Config and Setup
- Field availability can differ by ECU, bus system, and capture completeness
Basic usage
- Create a VCAP file through the approved Type 4 capture workflow in TIS2Web
- Launch VCAP Interpreter and open or drag and drop the VCAP file into the tool
- Review the List of Controllers and confirm ECU identifiers and programming state indicators
