Overview
Toolkit for servicing VCDS-compatible HEX-V2 style interfaces. It focuses on bench recovery of AVR/FTDI electronics, restoring hardware IDs 0x44/0x46 and re-enabling multi-language resources for use with Windows VCDS software. VCDS is a Windows-based diagnostic platform for VW, Audi, SEAT and Škoda. The genuine HEX-V2 interface contains an embedded license and acts as a dongle for the software.

VCDS 22.3.1 HEX-V2 service kit files including EEPROM FLASH FTDI templates and programmer tools

Highlights
  • Prepared EEPROM and FLASH sets for HW 0x44 and HW 0x46 with 1.96 firmware
  • FTDI configuration templates for FT_Prog to rewrite USB descriptors and VID/PID where appropriate
  • USBasp command files for in-circuit AVR programming on typical clone PCBs
  • Utilities to check hardware type and write language resources without editing by hand
  • Step-by-step structure suitable for lab repair and documentation

Compatibility notes
For bench service of HEX-V2-type USB interfaces used with VCDS on VW-Audi group vehicles. Outcomes depend on PCB revision, MCU and FTDI chip. Use only with matching hardware IDs and verified dumps. Genuine Ross-Tech interfaces include their own license and may require no such servicing. Availability varies by vehicle and firmware.

Basic usage
  • Identify the interface hardware type with the included checker and save full backups
  • Program the AVR with USBasp or your preferred tool using the corresponding 0x44 or 0x46 set
  • Apply FTDI settings via FT_Prog templates, then verify USB descriptors and serials
  • Load language resources and confirm proper enumeration in Windows Device Manager
  • Install VCDS and test basic communication on a bench simulator before vehicle use

Operating systems
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11 — x86 and x64. As of VCDS Release 22.3, a native build exists for Windows on ARM when used with HEX-NET or HEX-V2.

Minimum system requirements
Dual-core CPU, 2 GB RAM, 300 MB free storage, USB 2.0 port, local administrator rights, optional internet for driver downloads and official documentation
