Frequently Asked Questions

Which Windows version is recommended?
For maximum stability during ECU flashing and diagnostics, a clean installation of Windows 10 (64-bit) is recommended.

Thank you, I'll follow up. I'm looking for the Full PSdZData for a F020 series BMW, If anyone has that available, let me know. Everything I see is for the G chassis which does not have the HU-NBT2.prg file used by EdiAbas Tool32 for HU recovery.

just for test(y)

Welcome to the forum. If you posted to unlock the hidden content, try refreshing the page now—the links in the first post should be visible.

Quick tip: If you are downloading the Full PSdZData 4.55.11, ensure you have plenty of free disk space as it is quite large (over 100GB unpacked). If you only intend to do coding (FDL/VO) and not ECU flashing, the Lite version is sufficient and much quicker to download.

thank you so much!

thank you so much!

You're welcome!

Just a quick tip for the installation: When updating your PSdZData, it is best practice to delete the existing contents of your C:\Data\psdzdata folder before extracting the new version. Merging or overwriting files can sometimes lead to corruption or weird errors in E-Sys.

Also, double-check your folder structure after extraction to avoid the common "nested folder" issue. It should look like this:

  • Correct: C:\Data\psdzdata\mainseries
  • Incorrect: C:\Data\psdzdata\psdzdata\mainseries

Happy coding!

Thank you very much for your effort!

A short question regarding a problem I am facing: I want to upgrade the ECUs in my car. But I am afraid of locking them due to secure coding. How can I find out before flashing the ECUs if that would lock them or not?

My car is a G20 pre LCI (2020 build date) with ID7 (I know for sure that ID8.5 has many locked ECUs).

For a G20 (2020 build), if you are updating to the latest I-Level provided in these downloads (e.g., 24.06 / 4.54.xx), you should assume that Secure Coding 2.0 will be applied to several major modules.

There is no simple "check" button in E-Sys to see this before flashing, but based on the software age, here is the situation:

  • Affected Modules: On a G20, updating the MGU (Head Unit), SAS/SAS2, BCP, and often the DKOMBI (Instrument Cluster) to 2023/2024 software levels will implement Secure Coding.
  • "Locking" Definition: It depends on what you mean by "lock":
    • Functionality: The ECU will not be bricked or locked from working. It will function perfectly fine as a stock unit.
    • FDL Coding: You will likely be "locked" out of FDL Coding (changing custom parameters like Video in Motion, Start/Stop memory, etc.) using older Launchers.

Recommendation:
If you plan to flash these ECUs, ensure you have a modern tool (like BimmerUtility or E-Sys Ultra) available. Standard E-Sys with older launchers cannot FDL Code modules protected by Secure Coding 2.0. If you only have basic tools and want to keep your custom coding tweaks, you might want to skip flashing the MGU and SAS.

My psdzdata is 4.57.12 and Esys is 24.06.1. I have currently no real launcher, just BimmerUtility.

By locking I meant the fact that FDL coding will no longer be possible. So will it be possible with bimmer utility to still FDL code after secure coding 2.0?

Yes, you are in a good position.

BimmerUtility fully supports Secure Coding 2.0.

The "locking" issue primarily affects users relying on older, discontinued launchers (like TokenMaster's Launcher PRO 2.8) or older versions of E-Sys Plus. Those tools cannot generate the correct signature required for modules protected by Secure Coding 2.0 (like your MGU after the update).

Since you are using BimmerUtility:
  • It acts as the launcher and handles the NCD signing automatically.
  • You will still be able to FDL Code your modules (MGU, SAS, etc.) after flashing them to the latest I-Level.

Just ensure your BimmerUtility is updated to the latest version before you start, and you shouldn't have any issues restoring your coding tweaks on the G20 ID7.
