This looks like a very useful utility for the MQB platform, especially given how tricky the Virtual Cockpits (AID) can be compared to the older analogue clusters.

A couple of quick questions regarding this "vFinal" release:
  • Does this support the encrypted EEPROMs found in the newer 5NA part numbers?
  • What hardware interface is required? Does it work with standard J2534 devices (like Openport 2.0), or is a VAS5054A/6154 required?

I'll give this a try on a Golf MK7 retrofit and report back.

If you are planning to use this on a live car, please make sure to backup your original EEPROM and Coding before attempting any write operations. Virtual Cockpits (AID) are quite sensitive, and having a recovery point is essential.

1. VCDS Compatibility: No, you generally cannot use this software with a VCDS cable (version 17.8 or otherwise). VCDS cables are proprietary interfaces designed specifically for Ross-Tech software. For this tool, you will likely need a J2534 Pass-Thru device (like a Tactrix Openport 2.0) or a VAS5054A / VAS6154 interface.

2. Tutorial: There isn't a specific official video for this tool, but the workflow is usually similar to other engineering utilities:
  • Connect your J2534/VAS interface to the OBD port.
  • Launch the software.
  • Identify the cluster.
  • CRITICAL: Always use "Read EEPROM" first to save a full backup bin file before doing anything else.

Please be very careful. MQB Virtual Cockpits are sensitive, and writing incorrect data can brick the unit (black screen). If you are new to this, I recommend reading more about MQB cluster structures first.

Good luck with the tool. Just remember to keep a battery charger connected to the car while working on the cluster, as these operations can sometimes take a little while and you don't want the voltage to drop.

The Godiag GT109 is typically an ENET (Ethernet) cable, which is mostly used for BMW F/G series or vehicles requiring DoIP (Diagnostics over IP).

This VAG Virtual Cockpit software generally communicates with the cluster via CAN Bus (UDS) using the J2534 standard. It does not usually use a direct Ethernet connection for these operations.

Therefore, the GT109 will likely not work.

You need a J2534 Pass-Thru interface. If you want to stick with the Godiag brand, the Godiag GD101 J2534 is the correct cable for this type of work. Otherwise, a Tactrix Openport 2.0 or VAS5054A is recommended.
