VAG ABS ESP Long Coding Helper#

v2.1 – ABS ESP long code helper for VAG platforms and VCDS coding jobs

ABS ESP Long Code Calculator Helper v2.1 is a small Windows utility that assists with long coding of VAG ABS and ESP control modules.
It lets you build correct long coding strings by selecting vehicle options instead of guessing byte values, then copies the final coding directly for use with VCDS or other diagnostic tools.

Not Working

Hey, let me help you sort this out.

First — identify your exact ABS/ESP module

A 2015 Golf 7 GTI (MQB platform) will typically have one of these ESP units:
  • Continental MK100 — most common on MQB Golf 7 / GTI / R
  • Bosch 8.2i — used on some later builds or specific markets

Before fighting with the tabs, you need to confirm which one you actually have. Open VCDS, go to Address 03 – ABS Brakes, and note down:
  • Part Number (e.g. 5Q0 614 517 xx)
  • Component description (it will say something like "ESP MK100 Continental" or "ESP ALL-RAD Bosch")
  • Current long coding string (even if it's wrong now, grab it)

Regarding the tab issue

The tool has separate tabs for MK60EC1, MK25A, Continental MK100, and Bosch 8.2i. If the tabs are not switching, try these things:

  1. Screen resolution — the app needs at least 1024×768. If your display scaling in Windows is set to 125% or 150%, the tabs can get cut off or become unclickable. Try setting Windows display scaling to 100% and restart the app.
  2. Right-click → Run as Administrator — some UI elements don't render properly without elevated permissions.
  3. .NET Framework — make sure you have .NET Framework 4.x installed. Missing runtimes can cause tabs and controls to appear but not respond.
  4. Try on a clean Windows 10 64-bit machine if possible — the tool is confirmed working best on that OS.

If the tabs still won't switch, take a screenshot of the program window showing the tab area and post it here — that way we can see if it's a UI rendering bug or something else.

Also post the ABS module part number from VCDS so we can confirm whether MK100 is the correct tab for your GTI and, if needed, help you build the long coding manually from the label file.

the Programm dont start up

A few things to check to get it running:

1. Extract the archive properly

One of the reviews on the download page mentions the archive is password-protected. Make sure you:
  • Check the download page or readme for the archive password
  • Extract fully using 7-Zip or WinRAR — don't try to run it from inside the zip
  • Extract to a simple path like C:\Tools\ABS_Helper\ — avoid paths with special characters or spaces

2. Install required runtimes

The app likely needs these — if either is missing it will silently fail to start:
  • .NET Framework 4.x — download from Microsoft if not installed
  • Visual C++ Redistributable (2013 / 2015-2022) — install both x86 and x64 versions

3. Run as Administrator

Right-click the .exe → Run as administrator. Some systems block unsigned executables from launching without elevation.

4. Check Windows Defender / Antivirus

Small niche tools like this often get flagged as false positives. Check:
  • Windows Defender quarantine list — it may have silently removed the .exe
  • Add the extracted folder to your antivirus exclusion list
  • Try temporarily disabling real-time protection, then launch again

5. OS compatibility

Best results on Windows 10 64-bit. If you're on Windows 11, try right-clicking the .exe → Properties → Compatibility tab → set it to run in Windows 10 compatibility mode.

Try these steps and report back. If it still won't start, let us know:
  • Your Windows version
  • Any error message (even a brief flash)
  • Whether the .exe is still present in the folder after extraction (or if antivirus ate it)

now its starts but i cant switch to mk100 its grey backgroundet

That greyed-out tab usually means the tool needs you to fill in the required fields first before it unlocks the module-specific tabs.

Try this sequence:

  1. Enter your VIN in the VIN field at the top — make sure it shows as valid (the field should highlight green)
  2. Select steering side (Left Hand Drive / Right Hand Drive)
  3. Select drive layout (FWD or AWD — GTI is FWD unless it's a Golf R)
  4. Select the control module part number from the dropdown

The MK100 tab should unlock after these fields are populated.

If you don't know your exact part number:

Open VCDS → Address 03 – ABS Brakes → copy the following:
  • Part Number (format like 5Q0 614 517 xx)
  • Component description line
  • Current long coding string

Post that info here — it will confirm whether MK100 is correct for your GTI and which part number to select in the dropdown.

If the tab stays greyed out even after filling everything in, take a screenshot of the main window showing the filled fields and the greyed tab, and post it here so we can see exactly what's happening.

i got a Golf 7 R Variant 5q0614517ad

Good, that clarifies things. Golf 7 R Variant is AWD (4Motion), not FWD — make sure you have that set correctly in the tool.

Your part number 5Q0 614 517 AD is a Continental MK100 ESP unit, so the MK100 tab is the correct one.

Try this:

  1. Set drive layout to AWD / 4Motion
  2. Set steering to LHD (assuming left-hand drive)
  3. In the part number dropdown, look specifically for 5Q0 614 517 AD — if it's not listed, try 5Q0 614 517 A variants or the closest match

If the part number is not in the dropdown at all — that's likely why the tab stays greyed out. The tool only unlocks tabs for part numbers it has in its database.

In that case you have two options:

  1. Manual coding via VCDS — open Address 03, Long Coding Helper, and work through the bytes directly using the VCDS label file. Post your current long coding string here and what you want to change (e.g. enable/disable ESC Sport, drift mode, etc.) and I can help you with the specific bytes and bits.
  2. Check for a newer version of the tool — the AD suffix may have been added in a later update.

Post your current long coding from VCDS (Address 03 → Long Coding) and tell me what exactly you want to modify — we'll get it sorted either way.

Good day sir

I'm wondering if i can get help with the long coding on a Golf 7 gti 2015,

That's an interesting one — your part number 3Q0 907 379 Q with label 5Q0-907-379-IPB-V1.clb is a Continental MK100 IPB (Integrated Power Brake) unit. This is not the typical MK100 ESP found in most Golf 7 GTIs — the IPB variant integrates the brake booster function into the ABS module.

Before making any changes, a few questions:

  • Is this the original unit for this car, or was it swapped/retrofitted?
  • A 2015 Golf 7 GTI would normally have a 5Q0 614 517 xx part number (standard MK60 or MK100 ESP). The 3Q0 907 379 is typically found in Golf 7.5 / facelift models (2017+) or Arteon/Tiguan MQB vehicles.
  • What do you want to change? For example:
    • Enable/disable ESC Sport mode
    • Modify traction control behavior
    • Drift mode
    • Steering angle sensor calibration
    • Something else

Also — the IPB coding is significantly different from standard MK100 ESP coding. The byte layout and bit assignments are not the same, so standard MK100 long coding guides won't apply directly.

Post what you'd like to modify and confirm whether this is the original module or a retrofit, and we'll work through the correct bytes for your specific unit.

Okay, the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and ASC (Traction Control) lights being on usually indicate a problem with the ABS control module itself or its configuration. Since you have the IPB variant (3Q0 907 379 Q), the coding is specific.

The long coding you provided is:
Code:
01FA6AA12426096D0777020581CA2580562490E04081A4B6002000B40103

To help you code it, I need a bit more information:

1. TPMS Type:
* Does your Golf 7 GTI have direct TPMS (sensors in each wheel reporting pressure) or indirect TPMS (uses ABS wheel speed sensors to detect differences in rotation)?
* If you have direct TPMS, were the sensors recently replaced, or is there a known issue with them?

2. ASC Functionality:
* Are you trying to enable or disable specific ASC functions, or just get the warning light off?

3. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (G85):
* Has the steering wheel angle sensor been calibrated recently? A common cause for ABS/ESP lights is an uncalibrated G85 sensor. You can check this in VCDS under Address 03 -> Advanced Measuring Values.

4. VCDS Label File:
* Can you confirm the exact version of the 5Q0-907-379-IPB-V1.clb file you are using? Sometimes older label files don't have all the bits defined.

Once I have this information, I can help you interpret the bytes and bits in your long coding to address the TPMS and ASC lights. It's possible that a specific bit related to TPMS or ASC is not set correctly for your vehicle's configuration.

This is the original ABS MODULE
The labels shows 3Q0 907 379 F
ASC the ligt on the cluster must be...

Thanks for confirming. Let's work through this.

First things first — fault codes:

Before changing any coding, open VCDS and go to Address 03 → Fault Codes and post all stored DTCs here. The TPMS and ASC lights could be caused by actual faults rather than a coding issue. If there are faults present, coding changes won't turn the lights off — the faults need to be resolved first.

That said, let's look at your coding:

Your current coding:
Code:
01FA6AA12426096D0777020581CA2580562490E04081A4B6002000B40103

For the IPB unit (3Q0 907 379 F hardware), the key areas to check are:

  • TPMS (indirect): There is a byte/bit that defines whether TPMS is active and whether it's direct or indirect. If this is set to "direct" but you have indirect TPMS, the module will throw a fault and light up the TPMS warning.
  • ASC warning light: The ASC light on the cluster is typically driven by a fault condition in the ABS module, not a coding bit you simply toggle off. Turning it off via coding without resolving the underlying cause is not recommended — it masks a real issue.

What I need from you:

  1. Go to Address 03 → Fault Codes — post the full list of DTCs (fault codes) with their descriptions and status.
  2. Go to Address 03 → Long Coding Helper — take a screenshot or list out what each byte shows (the label file should decode some of the bits for you). This will tell us exactly what's currently configured.
  3. Confirm: is this a GTI with Performance Pack (bigger brakes, electronic diff lock) or standard GTI?

Post the fault codes and we'll go from there — that will tell us exactly what's causing the lights and whether it's a coding fix or something else.

VCDS -- Windows Based VAG/VAS Emulator Running on Windows 10 x...

You've provided a very comprehensive scan log. The key takeaway here is the overwhelming number of "Voltage too Low" (U1011) and "Function Restricted due to Insufficient Voltage" (U1400) faults across almost every module.

This is the primary issue, and it's causing the "Control Module Incorrectly Coded" (U1014) and other communication errors. The ABS module is reporting these codes because the low voltage is affecting its operation and communication with other modules.

Before we touch the ABS coding, we need to address the electrical system.

1. Battery and Charging System:
* Battery Health: The battery voltage is consistently dropping to very low levels (as low as 6.9V and 8.2V in some freeze frames). This indicates either a failing battery or a severe charging system issue. Get your battery tested at an auto parts store.
* Alternator Output: Ensure your alternator is charging correctly. With the engine running, check the voltage at the battery terminals. It should be between 13.8V and 14.5V. If it's lower, the alternator or voltage regulator may be faulty.
* Wiring and Grounds: Inspect the main battery terminals, ground connections (especially to the chassis and engine), and the main power supply to the fuse box and ABS module. Loose or corroded connections can cause significant voltage drops.

2. ABS Module Specific Issues:
* Steering Angle Sensor (G85): You have a specific fault for the steering angle sensor (B1168 - Voltage Too Low). This is directly related to the voltage issue. Once the voltage is stable, you will likely need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor.
* EPB Calibration: There's a fault for the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) missing calibration (C10E2 54). This is also a consequence of low voltage.
* TPMS and ASC Lights: The TPMS (C1146 - Signal Failure) and ASC lights are likely on because the ABS module itself is not functioning correctly due to the voltage issues, leading to communication errors or incorrect data.

Recommended Action Plan:

1. Resolve Electrical Issues:
* Test/Replace Battery.
* Test/Repair Alternator and Charging System.
* Thoroughly inspect and clean all main battery and chassis ground connections.

2. Clear Faults and Re-scan:
* Once the electrical system is stable, clear all fault codes.
* Perform a full scan again. If the U1011 and U1400 codes are gone and battery voltage is stable, you should see many of the other communication and "incorrectly coded" faults disappear.

3. ABS Coding and Calibration (After Electrical Issues are Fixed):
* ABS Coding: Once the electrical system is sorted, we can revisit the ABS coding. The "Control Module Incorrectly Coded" faults (U1014) are almost certainly a result of the voltage issues and communication problems, not necessarily incorrect coding itself.
* TPMS: With indirect TPMS, coding usually involves ensuring the correct setting is enabled in the ABS module.
* ASC: The ASC light should go off once the underlying faults are cleared and the system is functioning correctly. There isn't a specific bit to "turn off" the ASC warning light without fixing the cause.
* Steering Angle Sensor Calibration: After clearing codes and ensuring stable voltage, perform the basic setting/calibration for the steering angle sensor (G85) in Address 03.
* EPB Basic Settings: If the EPB calibration fault persists, perform the basic settings for the EPB.

Focus on the voltage issues first. The rest of the problems are symptoms of that primary electrical fault.
