Hi, i have a question: why use different VIN code for VCM? My car had carplay and android auto, which disappeared after vehicle data reset. Should i still change VIN to the one provided?

THANKS SO ,UCH

The resource title specifically says MGU, so it is designed and tested for the MGU (Media Graphic Unit) head unit — that's the unit found in BMW iDrive 7 (ID7) and newer vehicles.

Here's a quick breakdown of compatibility:

  • MGU / iDrive 7 (ID7)Yes, this is the target platform for this guide.
  • iDrive 8 / 8.5 / 9 — These use a different head unit generation (MGU2 / MGU3 depending on variant). The Tool32 commands and the VCM patching procedure in this guide are not guaranteed to work on those units. The internal software architecture, module addressing, and feature activation method can differ significantly.

To give you a more precise answer, it would help to know:
  • Your exact vehicle model, year, and engine
  • Which iDrive version / head unit HW part number you have (you can find this in the HU_MGU module info via ISTA or E-Sys)

If you're on a standard MGU (ID7) car, you should be good to go. If you're on ID8 or newer, don't attempt this procedure without confirming compatibility first — you risk writing incorrect data to the VCM.
