Great to see this one uploaded. The WDS is still one of the best tools for anyone doing electrical work on older BMWs and early MINIs. Nothing beats having the actual OEM wiring diagrams right in front of you when you're chasing a short or planning a retrofit.

Setup Tips (since this comes up every time)

WDS was built for Internet Explorer + Adobe SVG Viewer, which obviously is ancient tech. Here's what works in practice:

• Windows XP/7 VM — cleanest and most reliable method. Run it in VirtualBox or VMware, install IE6/8 and the Adobe SVG plugin, done. Zero headaches.
• Windows 10/11 with IE mode in Edge — some users get it working this way with compatibility settings, but it can be hit or miss depending on your build version and security policies.
• You must have local admin rights to install the SVG plugin properly.
• If diagrams don't render or you get blank screens, 99% of the time it's the SVG plugin not installed correctly or IE security zones blocking active content. Go to Internet Options → Security → Local Intranet and lower the settings, or add the WDS path to trusted sites.

Important to know

• This does NOT cover F-series or G-series vehicles. For those you need ISTA/P wiring plans or the integrated wiring diagrams in ISTA+.
• Coverage and detail level varies by model and production date — some late-production E-series cars may have modules or options that aren't fully documented in these WDS versions.
• The BMW and MINI sections are separate databases with slightly different interfaces and diagram styles.
