MIB Entry 1 (Continental) with black screen and no button backlight — let's work through this.

Before UART, confirm a few things:

• What is the exact part number on the unit label (e.g., 5G0 919 605 or similar)?
• Is this Composition Touch / Composition Colour (small integrated display)?
• Did it die after an update attempt, or just went black on its own?
• Do you see any activity when powering on — even a brief backlight flash?

UART connection:

On these MIB Entry units the UART test pads are on the main PCB near the SoC — you're correct that it's not the same as the Quadlock debug pins on MIB1/MIB2 High units.

You need to identify TX, RX, and GND pads on the board. Connect your USB-TTL adapter at 3.3V logic level only — do NOT connect the adapter's 3.3V power pin to the board, only signal lines + GND. Cross TX/RX as usual (adapter TX → board RX, adapter RX → board TX).

PuTTY settings to start with:

• Baud: 115200 (most common for these Continental SoCs)
• 8N1, no flow control

Power the unit on with UART connected and watch for output. If the SoC boots at all you should see U-Boot or kernel messages. If you get garbage characters, try 9600, 38400, or 57600 instead.

If you get a U-Boot prompt:
You can try interrupting the boot sequence (press a key during the countdown) and access recovery — reflash, boot alternate partition, etc.

If you get absolutely nothing:
That points to a hardware problem (dead SoC, failed regulator, corrupted boot ROM). Having 12V/5V/3.3V on the rails is good, but if the processor itself isn't starting, UART won't show anything.
