I do bit of commercial and agri also plenty cars, one thing for sure that i learn everyday is that i find that i know nothing about it.

Retired now, but worked with computers for a long time.

spent a lot of time coding retrofit adapter modules for bmws...

M gear shifter in non m cars. (all led and gear functions working, including park, dirve and sport modes.)
M Kombi in non m cars. (Gear display, drivlogic and fds all working with none m car modules, no special coding for kombi etc)
e46/e39 ibus to canbus adapter/emulator, emulates all exx ibus traffic to nbt/nbt evo can bus and populates all menus, obd, trip computer and things like the sports display, pdc, rear camera, tmps, oil level, and full CBS display (working form service level indictor from e46 dash), all tones and popups, also custom cc display chain that checks emulater all ok).

Also build cluster emulator (sends all correct data to clusters), and gearbox emultaor, wokd one and m shifters on bench.

Emulators for Exx, cic and nbt/evo for bench powering and emulation.

The tools I use include IOterminal, Renault ECU Tool, FoxFlash, and diagnostic systems like Delphi, VCDS, and MultiECUScan.
