Hi, does anyone know how to solve the immo problem in the Delco E98 Opel Astra J? I mean immo synchronization, can it be done if you have a readout from the BCM? Has anyone done something like this?

hello, does anyone know how to solve the immobilizer problem in a Delco E98 Opel Astra J? I mean synchronization...

Hello,

Yes, this is a known issue. The Delco E98 operates on the GM Global A platform.

To synchronize a used ECU with the BCM in an Astra J, simply reading the BCM is a good start, but you need a way to transfer the authorization data (PIN, CS/MAC) to the engine control unit or perform the relearning procedure.

The following are typically used successfully to perform this operation on the E98:
 • IO Terminal (with the appropriate GM license)
 • Smok UHDS
 • Original GM SPS (online) – official procedure

With readouts from both control units, it is theoretically possible to transfer the data manually in hex, but on the E98 this is quite complicated due to the checksums and structure. It is definitely easier to use the dedicated "Sync ECU-BCM" function in the appropriate equipment.

Hello,

Yes, this issue is known. The Delco E98 operates on a GM Global A shutdown.

To synchronize the ECU used with the BCM in an Astra J, simply reading the BCM is a good start, but you need the authorization data elements (PIN, CS/MAC) for the engine controller or complete the learning procedure.

The following are usually used successfully to perform this operation on the E98:
 • Terminal IO (with a GM license provided)
 • Smok UHDS
 • Original GM SPS (online) – the official procedure

The software for reading from both controllers that can be used is hex data software, but on the E98 this is the default solution due to the checksums and structure. A dedicated “Sync ECU-BCM” function in controlled hardware.
Hello mate, thank you for the tips. So you’re saying that GM Global would help me solve this problem? And perhaps you have a proven installer for GM Global? I would be very grateful.

Welcome, mate. Thanks for the tips, so you're saying that GM Global would help me solve this problem, and I...

Mate, I think there has been a small misunderstanding.

GM Global A is not the name of a program or tool that can be installed. It is the name of an electronic platform (architecture) used by General Motors in many cars, including the Opel Astra J, Insignia A, Chevrolet Cruze, etc.

The tools I mentioned earlier are specialized programs (usually sold together with hardware) that can work with controllers on this platform.

 • IO Terminal
 • Smok UHDS
 • GM SPS (official online system)

These are commercial, paid tools. There is no "installer" for them in the sense of free software that you can simply download and use. You buy a device (interface), and together with it you get software and licenses for specific functions, e.g. cloning or synchronizing GM controllers.

Unfortunately, there is no simple, free solution here that I could send you. To synchronize the E98 with the BCM, you need to invest in one of the mentioned professional tools.

Now I understand. Tell me, based on the VIN number, is anyone able to tell me what HW and SW I should have in the controller so that the software fits?

Okay, now I understand. Tell me, is anyone able to tell me, based on the VIN number provided, what I should have...

Yes, of course. This is a standard procedure.

Based on the VIN number, it is possible to determine precisely which hardware (HW) and software (SW) numbers the control unit had when it left the factory, as well as what the latest available software update is for that specific unit.

They can check this for you:
 • Any Opel / Chevrolet authorized service center. They have direct access to GM's global system (SPS - Service Programming System), which, after entering the VIN, shows the exact calibration numbers.
 • A well-equipped independent workshop that has paid access to GM service data.
 • People on specialist forums who have access to parts catalogs (EPC) and can check the part number (HW) assigned to your VIN.
The most important thing is the Hardware (HW) number, because the software (SW) must be 100% compatible with it. The HW number is stamped or printed on the control unit housing. The SW number is a matter of the calibration itself inside.

If you want to be sure, it is best to read the HW number directly from the label on your ECU, and then someone with access to the system can select the appropriate SW number for you based on the VIN.

Based on the VIN number, it is possible to determine which hardware (HW) and software (SW) numbers the controller left the factory with, as well as what the latest available software update is for that release.

The first places to check:
 • All authorized service centers Opla/Chevroleta. have direct access to GM's global system (SPS - Service Programming System), which provides the electrical unit numbers after entering the VIN.
 • A well-equipped independent workshop that can purchase access to GM service data.
 • People on specialist forums who have access to parts catalogs (EPC) can check the part number (HW) assigned to your VIN.
The most important thing is the Hardware (HW) number, because the software (SW) must be 100% compatible with it. The HW number is stamped or printed on the controller. The SW number is a separate matter.

If you have access to the computer, it is best to read the HW number directly from the labels on the ECU unit, and then, based on the VIN number, someone with access to the system will select the correct SW number for you.
Do you know anyone who could check this for me?

My friend, it's not appropriate to recommend specific people directly on the forum for commercial purposes, as that would be considered advertising.

The best way would be to create a new, separate topic in the Opel section or in the general "Diagnostics and Electronics" section.

Call it, for example: Astra J - Dobór softu do ECU po VIN

In the topic content, provide:
 • Vehicle VIN number
 • Model, year, engine
 • HW number from the controller, if you have it
 • Briefly describe why you need this information (e.g. replacement of a damaged ECU)
Surely someone with access to GM catalogs or SPS will reply to you quickly. There are many specialists here who help with such matters. Someone with access will certainly get in touch, or may ask for the VIN via PM (private message) if you don't want to provide it publicly.

This is the fastest and most reliable way to get a precise answer.
