Hi, the file works, but my computer switches off when I upload a .bin file

Hi oscar3196. Glad xDecoder itself runs — the PC switching off on .bin load isn't normal for v14.0 on a supported file. It's usually one of three things: a blue screen with auto-restart enabled (reads as a power-off), the CPU overheating when the scan kicks in, or the loader hitting a file from an ECU strategy it can't parse and taking the system down with it.

To narrow it down, I need a few specifics:
  • Does the PC fully power off, restart by itself, or just drop to the desktop?
  • Windows version and the size of the .bin you're loading?
  • Which ECU is it from (module, HW/SW) and which tool / read type produced the file?

Two quick checks while you reply: untick Automatically restart under System Properties → Advanced → Startup and Recovery, so any BSOD stays on screen with a code instead of vanishing; and try a known-good .bin from one of the ECUs listed in the 14.0 notes (BMW MG1CS003/024/201, Ford DCM6.1 or SID211, VAG MD1CS004/CP014, etc.) to see if it's specific to your file or happens with everything.

Hola oscar3196.

Good catch with Event Viewer, oscar3196. That Event ID 1074 pointing at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe is the answer to my first question: the shutdown is a deliberate command being issued after the BIN finishes loading, not a crash, blue screen or thermal trip. That rules out the overheating and BSOD angles from my last post.

The official xDecoder 14.0 from the resource here shouldn't call shutdown.exe on a valid activation. Read together with the "OUT-OF-DATE" message, this looks like a license/protection response rather than a file-parsing fault — the loader is using the BIN load as the trigger point. I can't confirm that without seeing what actually called shutdown, so it's inference, not fact.

On the license side:

  • Licenses are normally version-tied. A 14.0 activation won't automatically carry over to 14.2 on the same HWID — the newer build expects its own authorization, which fits 14.2 rejecting your existing license.
  • The "OUT-OF-DATE" status and the 14.2 mismatch are account/access matters I can't resolve from the thread. Those need Bin/admin through the forum workflow.

To find what's actually invoking the shutdown:

  • Open the full Event 1074 entry and note the reason/comment string — 1074 records why the shutdown was initiated, and that text often points straight at the trigger.
  • If Audit Process Creation is on, look for an Event 4688 for shutdown.exe around the same timestamp — its parent process field tells you what spawned it. If audit isn't on, enabling it for one test load will capture the culprit on the next run.
  • Check the xDecoder install folder for any .bat/.cmd or a scheduled task referencing shutdown, and Task Scheduler for entries tied to the program.

And two things I need from you:

  • Which build are you running — the one from Resource #295 in this thread, or a download from another source? Reinstalling from "different sources" can land modified builds on the PC that behave this way.
  • A screenshot of the "OUT-OF-DATE" message exactly as it shows in 14.0.

Once the activation is confirmed valid the shutdown should stop, but that confirmation has to come from Bin.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Gemini.

I've tested xDecoder 14.0 downloaded from both MHH AUTO and BinUnlock Resource #295, and both versions cause exactly the same shutdown after loading a BIN file.

The program displays the red "OUT-OF-DATE" message, even though my license is recognized and my username and HWID appear correctly at the bottom.

I've also downloaded xDecoder 14.2, but my existing license isn't accepted. The HWID remains exactly the same.

I'll check Event ID 4688 to see if I can identify which process launches shutdown.exe.

Do you think updating the license to 14.2 would resolve the shutdown issue? Or is there a way for Bin to renew my existing activation?

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Gemini.

I've tested xDecoder 14.0 downloaded from both MHH AUT...

That testing confirms it's a license/protection response rather than a file-parsing or hardware fault — the identical behavior from both sources, combined with the "OUT-OF-DATE" flag and the targeted shutdown after BIN load, all point the same direction.

The "OUT-OF-DATE" message appearing alongside your recognized username and HWID is the central contradiction: the loader sees your credentials but rejects the activation state. That's typically what happens when a license has expired, been revoked, or flagged for renewal — the HWID match proves identity, but the authorization itself is no longer valid for that build.

On the version mismatch: licenses are normally tied to specific version ranges. A 14.0 activation won't automatically carry forward to 14.2 even on the same HWID — each build expects its own license record. So 14.2 rejecting your existing activation is expected behavior if your account only holds a 14.0 entitlement.

Whether updating to a 14.2 license would solve the shutdown depends on whether your account status is current. If the "OUT-OF-DATE" flag in 14.0 reflects an expired or suspended account, a 14.2 upgrade alone won't help until the underlying account issue is resolved. If it's simply that your 14.0 license has reached its support window and needs renewal, then a fresh 14.2 activation should work.

Either way, this is an account/access matter I can't resolve from the thread. Contact Bin or use the admin workflow to check your account status, explain the "OUT-OF-DATE" + shutdown behavior, and request either a license renewal or a 14.2 upgrade. They'll be able to see your entitlement history and whether the account needs reactivation.

Event 4688 may still give you a useful data point — if it shows exactly which xDecoder component is calling shutdown.exe, that's something Bin might ask for when diagnosing the protection behavior.

Hi Gemini, thanks again for your help.

I've now enabled Windows process creation auditing and managed to identify exactly what's causing the shutdown.

Windows Event ID 4688 confirms the following:

  • Parent process: <span>C:\Program Files (x86)\xDecoder-14.0\xDecoder.exe</span>
  • Executed process: <span>C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe</span>
  • Command line: <span>shutdown /s /f /t 0</span>
So we've confirmed that xDecoder itself is deliberately initiating an immediate Windows shutdown right after loading a BIN file.

The license is recognized, my username and HWID are displayed correctly, but the program still shows "OUT-OF-DATE".

I've tested version 14.0 from both MHH AUTO and BinUnlock Resource #295, with exactly the same result.

I obtained the activation recently, so I'm wondering whether this is caused by an expired build rather than an invalid license.

Is there a known fix for this issue, or a newer official build compatible with my current activation?

I'd really appreciate any guidance before contacting Bin again.

Thanks for your time and support!

Hi Gemini, thanks again for your help.

Perfect diagnostic work, oscar3196. That Event 4688 record closes the loop — xDecoder.exe is the parent process calling shutdown /s /f /t 0 directly, which means the shutdown is deliberate protection behavior triggered after the BIN finishes loading, not a file-parsing fault or system issue.

Read together with the "OUT-OF-DATE" flag, the HWID recognition, and the identical behavior across both downloads, this points to build expiry enforcement rather than a corrupted installation or hardware problem. The program sees your credentials and confirms your HWID, but the authorization logic is rejecting the 14.0 build itself.

If your activation was obtained recently but only covers 14.0, and the protection system now flags 14.0 as "OUT-OF-DATE," that typically means one of two things:

  • The 14.0 build has been superseded and is now enforcing an upgrade window — older builds are sometimes retired once a newer release (14.2 in this case) becomes the supported version.
  • Your account's license record has expired or been flagged for renewal, and the loader is using the BIN-load trigger to enforce it.

There's no local fix for protection-level enforcement. If 14.0 is flagged as expired at the build level, reinstalling it or sourcing it from another location won't change the outcome — the logic is baked into the binary and checks against the central authorization state.

Next step: contact Bin or use the admin workflow to check your account status and explain the shutdown behavior. Ask whether your current license covers 14.2, or if an upgrade/renewal is needed. If 14.0 has been retired and 14.2 is now the active build, upgrading your license entitlement to 14.2 should resolve it — assuming your account itself is in good standing.

If Bin confirms your account is current and you're entitled to 14.2, the 14.2 download from the resource should accept the renewed activation once your license record is updated on their end.

The request details are clear, but the current allowance does not have enough room for this activation.

Current usage: 1 registered personal HWID for xDecoder 14.0, with an account allowance of 1.
This request: 1 new distinct HWID. Available slots before this request: 0.

Reissuing a license for any HWID already registered to your forum account remains free and does not consume another slot.

Partner/community limits are counted separately per product: Registered 1 HWID, Stage 1 2 HWIDs, Stage 2 3 HWIDs, and Stage 3 4 HWIDs. Stage changes the device allowance only; the product author controls its license term.

If you need more personal devices, a Stage membership raises the per-product activation allowance.

i registered it but when i put my file into the XDECODER my system get Shutdown. Whats the problem?

Same symptom that was just diagnosed a few posts up — xDecoder is deliberately calling shutdown /s /f /t 0 immediately after loading a BIN file. It's the software's own protection logic triggering, not a crash or a hardware fault.

The usual cause is the license being flagged as OUT-OF-DATE on the server side even though your username and HWID are recognised. A fresh registration doesn't rule it out — if the build or license record has been flagged for renewal, the shutdown fires regardless.

There's no local workaround for this; the fix has to happen on the account side. Post your details to Bin or open a support request in the relevant forum workflow, and mention the shutdown-on-BIN-load symptom. That gives them exactly what they need to check your activation state and sort it out.
