Hello, after installing PCM flash and scanmatic,
I somehow managed to completely lock up and disable the hardware. It's a Chinese clone, though. What should I watch out for? Any advice, please? Thank you

This happened because you probably installed a driver version or PCMflash that contains active anti-piracy protection. The original software detects cloned hardware (MCU) and blocks it, often by erasing or corrupting the firmware in the device.

I understand the frustration; unfortunately, it happens very often. Downloading from "various websites" was probably the problem. Even if it is not directly from the official Scanmatik website, many "modified" packages on the internet contain newer original drivers that detect and kill clones.

Here is the recommended safe procedure when your new unit arrives:

Step 1: Clean slate. Before you even connect the new clone to USB, completely uninstall everything left over from the old one – all Scanmatik drivers, PCMflash, Guardant. Make sure there are no traces left in Device Manager. Ideally, use a completely clean Windows installation (or a virtual machine), if you have that option.
Step 2: Disconnect from the internet. Before starting the installation, physically disconnect the network cable or turn off Wi-Fi. This will prevent Windows Update from automatically downloading the "latest" (and clone-killing) driver, and prevent the software from attempting to verify online.
Step 3: Use ONLY the supplied software. Install only what the Chinese seller sends you with this specific new unit (usually on a CD or via their link). Do not use any other versions of PCMflash or drivers downloaded from elsewhere, not even those from the first post in this thread, unless you are 100% sure they are safe for your type of clone.
Step 4: Never update. Once it is working, block the applications' internet access in the firewall just to be safe. If you ever get a prompt to update the adapter firmware or software, always decline it.

With clones, there is one simple rule: If it works, do not touch it and do not update anything.

Use the included media: The package usually contains a CD (often a small mini-CD), or sometimes a USB flash drive. Use ONLY the installers from this source. This is the version the seller paired with that hardware.
Contact the seller: If there is nothing in the package, or the CD is unreadable, message the seller (on AliExpress, eBay, etc.) and request a download link for the software specifically intended for your order.
Ignore versions found online: Even if someone on a forum says that "version X.XX works with my clone," that doesn't mean it will work with yours.

In general, older driver versions (e.g. around version 2.21.21 and older) used to be "more tolerant" with clones than the very latest ones (2.21.22 and newer), which have more aggressive protection. But don't rely on that and stick strictly to whatever you receive in the box.

Which clone version do you have? (Where did you buy it – AliExpress, another seller?)
Did you receive any CD or software link from the seller with it?
What MCU is on the board? (STM32F105VC or another one – if you can open the case and check)
Does the clone work at all, or is it completely dead / locked?
What exactly do you need – Scanmatik drivers, PCMflash, or MCU firmware?

Without this information, I can't recommend specific software, because there is no universal version for clones – the wrong combination can destroy the clone immediately.
