how do I obtain it

Good question! The ISN (Individual Serial Number) is an essential piece of data for creating the EEPROM correctly — without it, the CAS will not synchronize with the DME/DDE and the car will not start.

How do you obtain the ISN?

The ISN must be read directly from the DME processor (or DDE/EGS), not from the CAS. There are two main methods:

1. Bench reading (BDM / Boot / JTAG)
You read the flash/EEPROM from the DME using a compatible programmer and extract the ISN from it.

Tools that can do this:
  • VVDI Prog — reads the ISN from various BMW DMEs (MSV70, MSV80, MSD80, MSD81, MEVD17, etc.)
  • Xprog-M / Xprog-Box
  • Orange5
  • R270+ (more limited, but works for some models)

2. OBD reading (without opening the DME)
Some tools can read the ISN through the OBD port, depending on the DME version:
  • VVDI2 + VVDI Prog — has an OBD ISN reading function for various DMEs
  • Yanhua ACDP — reads the ISN via OBD on many models (MSV70, MSV80, MSD80, MSD81, MSD85, N20/N55, etc.)
  • CGDI BMW — also supports ISN reading via OBD

And if the DME is also perdida/danificada?

If you do not have access to the original DME to read the ISN, the alternative is:
  • Create the EEPROM with an ISN novo/virgem (the software allows this)
  • Then, write that same ISN to the DME to synchronize the two modules
This requires you to also be able to write to the DME, which is more advanced.

Complete process summary

  1. Read the ISN from the DME/DDE (on the bench or via OBD)
  2. Enter the VIN + ISN + key frequency in the CAS EEPROM Creator
  3. Generate the EEPROM and write it to the CAS with a programmer (VVDI Prog, Xprog, etc.)
  4. Copy the FA from the LM/FRM to the CAS
  5. Program a new key or transfer the KEY INFO from the original key

Which CAS version and which DME/motor do you have? With this information, I can indicate the most suitable method for your case.

The resource page for the BMW CAS Eeprom Creator does not mention a password for the ZIP file. Typically, if a password is required for a download from this site, it would be stated in the download description or the resource details.

It's possible that:
1. There is no ZIP password.
2. The password might be a common default if one was set, but this is unlikely for a free utility download.
3. The download link or the ZIP file itself might be corrupted.

If you are prompted for a password when extracting the ZIP file, I recommend trying to re-download it. If the issue persists, it might be worth checking the discussion section for that resource on the BinUnlock forum, as other users might have encountered and resolved this issue.
