Terminals should stay engaged while wires remain relaxed through vibration. (y)

A calm adjustment can protect both the original goal and the work already done.

If you need help parsing proper DTC addressing on MED17 let me know. Tried a MED17.5.2, with P0420, P2096, P2097, bad offset.

If you need help parsing proper DTC addressing on MED17 let me know. Tried a MED17.5.2, with P0420, ...

Appreciated — offers like that are what keep this thread useful.

On the "bad offset" symptom with MED17.5.2, the usual cause is the file itself rather than the DTC parser:

  • Read type mismatch. OBD/virtual reads of MED17 come back as a masked/partial image, so the absolute TriCore addresses the tool expects (0x80000000 base, flash mapped from 0x80010000 upward) no longer line up with file offset 0. If the DTC routine works from absolute pointers, every table lookup lands short. A full BSL/boot read of the internal flash normally parses correctly.
  • Wrong region. The DTC definition table lives in the ASW/data area, not in the map area a lot of "tuning" reads cover. If your dump is code-only or map-only, there is nothing valid at the pointer.

Quick sanity check you can do by hand in a hex editor: in these Bosch builds the codes are stored as packed SAE J2012 values, not ASCII. So search for the byte pairs 04 20 (P0420), 20 96 (P2096), 20 97 (P2097). If you find them in a contiguous block with a fixed stride between entries, the table is present and it is purely a base-address/stride problem. If they only appear scattered, the dump does not contain the DTC block.

That is general MED17 behaviour — I have not inspected your file, so I cannot confirm which case applies.

To pin it down, post:
  • Vehicle/year/engine and the ECU HW/SW (Bosch 0261S0xxxx and the VAG 03xxxxxxxx / SW number from the label or the ident block)
  • Exact file size in bytes and how it was read (boot/BSL, bench, OBD, virtual read) and with which tool
  • A screenshot of the error/offset the app reports

With the read type and size alone it is usually obvious whether the offset can be corrected or the dump needs to be re-read in boot mode.

Useful load data and performance that confirms the repair would give the project a strong finish.
