Quick heads-up about today’s “why is the forum acting weird?” moment

Most of you have probably noticed how ridiculously fast the forum usually loads. That’s not witchcraft, it’s the servers setup.

Reality check: the forum lives on Google’s servers, and the database is mirrored in 4 locations in 4 copies, specifically in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the USA. They constantly sync with each other so everything stays consistent.

On top of that, the HTML is delivered from around 120 different cities worldwide, so pages arrive from “the nearest point on the map” like a well-trained courier.

Today Google had a hiccup on their side (not mine). When that happens, the replicas can sync poorly for a while, so you might see:
  • slower loads than usual
  • something looking slightly out of date
  • small oddities that vanish after a refresh

From what I can see, everything is already getting back to normal.

If you noticed anything strange, sorry about that. I promise I didn’t touch anything… and if I did, I’d blame a solar flare anyway. :)
