This is currently the biggest challenge in programming these units. Bosch MD1CS012 control units (and the MG1/MD1 family in general) produced after approximately mid-2020 (2021 models and later) come equipped with an updated bootloader protection system (New Bootloader Security).

Current technical situation:

• Traditional unlocking methods (Exploits) used by most tools in Bench or Boot mode for older units do not work on these newer versions due to changes in the encryption keys and verification mechanism.
• Attempting to write to them using old protocols will fail and may, in some cases, damage the unit (Brick).

How can they be handled?
Unfortunately, there is currently no direct method or "button to disable protection" that you can use yourself with standard tools. The available options are:

1. Send the unit for unlocking (Unlock Service): This is currently the most common solution. There are highly specialized companies and centers that have expensive equipment and proprietary methods (often requiring the unit cover to be opened) to remove this new type of protection. You must physically send them the ECU.
2. Wait for support from your tool: All major programming tool manufacturers (such as Autotuner, Magicmotorsport FLEX, KESS3, bFlash) are working on finding solutions. Some have released trial or limited solutions for certain brands. You should regularly follow your tool's update bulletins to see when this processor with the new bootloader will be supported.

Tip: Always check your tool's technical support before attempting to work on any 2021+ vehicle equipped with this unit to avoid problems.
