I’m attempting to work with the 080d0wq on a 2011 e70 bmw cluster.

What hardware does this work with? As in which eeprom hardware will I need?

I’m attempting to work...

The R270 programmer works with the R270 CAS4 BDM Programmer hardware — it's a specific USB dongle/board sold under that name (sometimes labeled "R270+ V1.20" or similar). You'll find it on AliExpress, eBay, etc. usually for $15–40 depending on the kit.

What you need for M35080/080D0WQ on your E70 cluster:

  • R270 hardware unit (USB programmer board)
  • M35080 adapter/clip or wiring harness — many R270 kits come with a dedicated socket board or flying-wire adapter for the M35080 family. If yours doesn't include one, you'll need to solder wires directly to the chip pins (VCC, GND, CLK, DI, DO, S, etc.)
  • A steady hand or chip clip — the 080D0WQ in the E70 cluster is typically in an SO8/SOP8 package, so a SOIC8 test clip can work for in-circuit reading if the board allows it

For your specific job (080D0WQ on 2011 E70 cluster):

  • In the R270 software, select the M35080/160D/35160 module, then choose 080D0WQ
  • The software supports read, write, and erase for this chip family
  • Always read and save a backup before any write operation
  • Some users report better success reading off-board (desoldering the chip) vs. in-circuit with a clip — depends on the cluster PCB layout and whether other components on the SPI bus interfere
