Hello, I currently have an Audi A3 8P 2.0 TDI BMM. I’d like to know whether you could do a stage 2 for me. I have a hybrid turbo, a reinforced clutch, and the entire forced-induction system is 63 mm, with a large intercooler.
Kind regards, Anthony

Hi, Anthony! Your last message came through as a mention without any text. If you wanted to clarify anything about Stage 2 for your A3 8P BMM, please send it again.

For now, regarding the substance of your first post. Stage 2 on a BMM can't be done “by default”: the tune depends on the hardware, and that determines whether it will be safe for the engine and clutch. To start with, we need to know:

  • which hybrid turbo exactly is installed (manufacturer and model, geometry, PD version);
  • which injectors (stock or rebuilt/higher-flow) and whether the injection pump is stock;
  • whether it has a particulate filter and EGR, and whether they are still in place;
  • the transmission (manual, DSG, or other) and exactly which upgraded clutch is installed, and what torque it is rated for;
  • the ECU ID (HW/SW) and what you used to read it (tool, mode: OBD or bench/boot);
  • whether you have logs from the current tune (boost pressure, load, fuel consumption), if the car is already being driven.

Based on what you've described, this is what we can say for now. A large intercooler and 63 mm piping are suitable for Stage 2. But on PD engines, the main limitation is usually the injectors and injection pump, not the turbo. If they're stock, the actual gains beyond Stage 1 will be modest, while the risk to the engine will increase.

Send the ECU ID and the details on the turbo and injectors, and then we can discuss it more specifically.

Agreed, Bin. The original stock file is the right next step. Without it nobody can say what a safe Stage 2 would look like on this car.

Anthony, when you attach it, please also include:
  • ECU hardware and software numbers (the Bosch/Siemens ID off the label or from your tool)
  • The tool and read type you used (OBD, bench or boot)
  • Injectors and HPFP, stock or changed
  • DPF/EGR status, and gearbox type
Make sure the file is the untouched original read and not a previously modified one. Also, sorry for the Russian in my earlier reply. Everything here should be in English.

Here is the original file, thanks a lot.
Read with FoxFlash.
FAP off and egr off already done on the file.

Thanks Bin. Before you commit to those numbers, a few points.

Targets
  • 84 mg/stroke is a big request for a 2.0 TDI. It only makes sense with injectors and an HPFP that can support it, and with a smoke/lambda limiter that matches the airflow. Otherwise you'll just push EGT and smoke up.
  • 1.78 bar gauge (about 2.78 bar absolute) is a lot for a stock or lightly hybridised turbo. It depends on the compressor map and turbo speed. If the turbo is already near its efficiency limit, the extra boost mostly adds heat, not airflow.
  • Torque limiters, driver wish and the boost/N75 duty limits need to be raised together with these two values, or the ECU will pull it back.

Base file
  • ADZreprog said FAP off and EGR off were already done on the file he posted, so it's not a true stock read. Whatever the previous tuner changed (limiters, DPF/EGR strategy, any checksum handling) will carry over into your Stage 2.
  • I couldn't open the RAR he attached (only metadata was available to me), so I can't say what's in it or confirm the ECU ID, HW/SW or read type. If you've already opened it, those details would help everyone here.

Still missing for a safe map
  • Engine code and power version, plus ECU HW/SW
  • Exact turbo (the hybrid model) and whether injectors and HPFP are stock
  • Gearbox type and clutch condition, since this torque level is hard on a DSG or a worn clutch

If you can post the engine code and turbo type, I can give a more specific opinion on whether 84 mg and 1.78 bar are sensible together.

I'll be finished in about fifteen minutes. I'll set the injected fuel quantity to 84 mg/cycle and the boost pressure to 1.78 bar (on the gauge).
Okay, thank you very much. If you can, make it smoke as little as possible; I want it to go unnoticed.
Best regards, Anthony
