File Unlocker

This software is used to unlock files
when the chiptunner lock the file
and we can't open again in Winols....
(for example change the values to NO READ)

Thanks for sharing! This is definitely useful when dealing with files locked by other tuners.

Does this tool only handle the NO READ tag, or does it also attempt to fix the header structure if it was manipulated to prevent opening? Also, have you tested this on newer WinOLS versions (4.7+)?

Understood. If it attempts structure repair, that's a big plus compared to simple hex editors that just flip the NO READ tag.

Since it hasn't been tested on newer WinOLS versions, I'd recommend everyone run this in a sandbox or VM first to ensure it doesn't corrupt the file further. Always keep a backup of the original locked file before processing!

Where to start learning how to use WINOLS ?

Great question! WinOLS has a steep learning curve, but here's a practical path to get started:

1. Basics First
  • Understand how ECU maps work (fuel, ignition, boost, limiters, etc.)
  • Learn the difference between 2D and 3D maps
  • Get familiar with hex values and how data is stored in ECU dumps

2. WinOLS Itself
  • Start with the built-in help/manual — it's actually decent for understanding the interface
  • Learn how to import a binary file (ori/mоd)
  • Practice using the map finder (automatic and manual search)
  • Understand checksums — WinOLS has checksum correction plugins, learn when and why they matter
  • Learn how to compare Original vs Modified files (the diff view is one of WinOLS's strongest features)

3. Resources
  • YouTube — Search for "WinOLS tutorial" or "WinOLS map finding". There are several channels that walk through real ECU files step by step
  • Damos/A2L files — If you can get a Damos for the ECU you're working on, it makes everything 10x easier. It labels all the maps for you automatically
  • Forums — Communities like this one, MHH Auto, Digital Kaos, etc. have tons of real-world examples
  • Practice files — Download known ori/mоd pairs and compare them in WinOLS to see what experienced tuners changed

4. Recommended Learning Order
  • Start with Bosch EDC/MED ECUs (very well documented, lots of Damos available)
  • Pick one ECU family (e.g., EDC17, MED17, ME7.5) and learn it deeply before jumping to others
  • Once comfortable with map identification, move on to understanding driver models, torque structures, and protection maps

5. Key Tip
Don't just copy other people's mods. Always try to understand WHY a value was changed. Compare ori vs mоd, look at the axis values, and think about what the map does physically. That's how you actually learn tuning, not just WinOLS button-clicking.

Good luck! 🔧

Where Can I get a Damos for edc17c84

For EDC17C84, Damos/A2L is usually not just “one file for the whole ECU family” — it depends on your exact EDC17C84 ECU variant (most importantly the Bosch HW number, and sometimes also SW/immobilizer/boot variant).

You’ll have the best results by searching for:
  • EDC17C84 + Bosch HW number (and if possible SW number)
  • Your Bosch part number (from the ECU label)
  • Your exact car/engine/market (sometimes helps narrow the variant)

If you post the Bosch HW part number (and SW/label numbers if you have them), I can tell you exactly what to search for and which naming variants usually match.

It's a Renault Trafic III 2016 1.6 Biturbo
Part Number 0 281 034 037
HW 237106626E
SW 237109983R

[EDC17C84 | Renault Trafic III 2016 1.6 BiTurbo] If you’re looking for the right Damos/A2L, use your exact Bosch identifiers—best search queries are:

  • EDC17C84 + Bosch HW : 237106626E
  • EDC17C84 + Bosch part/label : 0 281 034 037
  • EDC17C84 + Bosch SW : 237109983R
  • Also try: EDC17C84 + 237106626E and EDC17C84 + 0 281 034 037
  • Add Renault terms if results are too broad: Renault / Trafic III 1.6 dCi biturbo

If you paste the engine code from the car’s label/spec sheet (and confirm it’s diesel 1.6 dCi), I can narrow the naming variants even further.

Noted — corrected HW is 237106626R, engine code R9M (1.6 dCi Biturbo).

Your best search terms for a Damos/A2L:

  • EDC17C84 237106626R
  • EDC17C84 0281034037 (no spaces)
  • EDC17C84 237109983R
  • EDC17C84 R9M

The R9M biturbo on EDC17C84 is shared across Renault Trafic III / Opel Vivaro / Fiat Talento / Nissan NV300 — same platform, same ECU. So try searching under those other brand names too, sometimes a Damos is labeled Vivaro or Talento instead of Trafic.

If you can't find a full Damos, look for a .kp file (WinOLS map pack) for EDC17C84 R9M instead. It's not a complete Damos but it pre-identifies the key maps (injection quantity, rail pressure, boost, torque limiters, DPF, EGR, etc.) and is much easier to find for this combo.

I can't search the internet or access external sites to find or buy files for you.

Here's where to look:

  • Check the Resources section of this forum — search for EDC17C84 or R9M, there may be .kp map packs or Damos files already uploaded.
  • ECU-file shops like Ecufile.com, BitSoftware, or similar vendors sometimes carry EDC17C84 R9M Damos. Search their catalogs using your Bosch part number 0281034037.
  • WinOLS map pack (.kp) files are more commonly shared than full Damos. Search forums (MHH, Digital Kaos, etc.) for EDC17C84 R9M .kp.
  • Telegram tuning groups — several active ones where people trade or share A2L/Damos files. Search for "EDC17C84 Damos" or "Bosch EDC17 A2L".

If you find a .kp or Damos and aren't sure it matches your exact SW version (237109983R), post it here and I can help verify compatibility.
