WinOLS 5.77 itself is an official EVC installer—it starts and works in demo/viewer mode without any registration. In this mode, you can open and view projects, but the save and edit functions are locked.

To unlock the full version, you need EVC hardware licenses (dongle + machine-bound activation code), which can be purchased directly from EVC electronic or their authorized resellers.

In short:

• If it asks for "registration" at startup → that is the normal license prompt. You can click Demo or Continue without license to use it in read-only mode.
• If instead it asks you to create an account on some website → that is not a requirement of WinOLS itself; you are probably confusing it with the forum login needed to download the file.

If you mean that the BinUnlock site asks you to register to download the resource: yes, you need to create a free forum account to access the download section. Just register and then click "Sign in to download".

WinOLS has a significant learning curve, but it's not impossible. Here’s a general idea:

To get started without getting lost:

• Open a bin/ori file from an ECU you know well (your own car, for example).
• Use the automatic map search — WinOLS function; it detects the calibration tables and displays them for you. 2D/3D
• Start by only viewing them, without modifying anything, to understand the structure of the maps.

What makes the work much easier:

• Damos / A2L files — if you have the damos for that ECU, WinOLS identifies all the maps for you with names, axes, and units. The difference is huge compared to searching for maps blindly.
• Reference projects (.ols) — if someone has already mapped that same ECU, you can import the map definition and apply it to your file.

Practical tips:

• Always save the untouched original file before making any changes.
• First learn what each map does (injection, boost, limiters, etc.) before changing values.
• The built-in checksum in WinOLS automatically corrects the sums when saving — that will save you a lot of trouble.
