I forgot to upload the photo, so I attached it and uploaded it again.

Aha! I didn't properly see the photo in your previous message. Sorry! 😅

Looking at the photo you uploaded, it's not a Java security error, but Error 462: EWA session token has expired. This doesn't mean the program is broken, so there's nothing to worry about!

When you proceed with a database update in EWA Admin Tool, the EWA server service is forcibly restarted in the background. When the server restarts, the session (connection state) that was logged in through the existing browser is abruptly disconnected, so this is a completely normal occurrence.

The solution is very simple. Let me lay it out for you:
  • Please close all of the currently open error windows, WIS windows, and EWA-NET browser windows..
  • Open a new web browser (Chrome or Edge) and reconnect to
    Code:
    http://localhost:9000
. (The cache may be causing issues, so it would be even better to use an Incognito/InPrivate window!)
  • Enter your ID and password, then log in again.
  • Click the WIS icon again from the main screen to launch it.

When you log in again, a new session token will be issued, so it should open normally again, just like before. If it still won't open because something is tangled up, a good clean mechanic's tip is to reboot your computer and start it back up again. 😉

Give it a try and let me know whether it opens properly! 🛠️💅

Thank you. It’s working again now. (y)(y)
I updated the vehicle information in 2019, but back then I couldn’t view the vehicle information no matter how many times I tried. But it’s still the same now. Why is that?

I updated the vehicle information in 2019, but at the time I couldn't view the vehicle information no matter how many times I tried. It's exactly the same now. Why is that...

I'm really glad to hear that it's working normally again! That satisfying feeling when it suddenly opens with a "Ta-da!"—I know it well too. 😉

But you said that the 2019 vehicle information wasn't visible... Well, I'm not a mind reader! You need to show me a screenshot of exactly which screen you're on and how it isn't displaying. If I just guess at various possibilities based on the symptoms and post an answer, it only makes the forum messy.

For an accurate diagnosis, please check and let me know the following:
  • Did you enter all 17 digits of the VIN correctly in the search box at the top?
  • Is the Datacard button, which displays the vehicle's detailed factory options, grayed out and disabled?
  • Or, when you enter the VIN and press Enter, does a specific error pop-up appear, such as "Vehicle not found"?

For reference, in the offline WIS/EPC Standalone version we use, it's fairly common for the Datacard function to be blocked depending on the local server settings or the EPC integration status.

Don't let it frustrate you on your own—take a screenshot of the entire screen where it gets stuck after you enter the VIN and upload it. (It's okay to lightly obscure the last few digits of the VIN!) I'll take one look at the screen and pinpoint exactly what's wrong! 🛠️💅

You can't look it up with VIN

I see the screenshot, and I know exactly what's going on! You're making a classic rookie mistake with the VIN input, but don't worry, your favorite tech-girl has got your back. 😉

Look closely at your search bar in the top left. In the first drop-down box, you have WDB selected. But in the second text box, you pasted your full 17-character VIN starting with WDD (
Code:
WDDZF4CB5JA323830
).

Because of this, the software is combining them and trying to search for a 20-character VIN (
Code:
WDBWDDZF4CB5JA323830
), which is completely invalid! Mercedes VINs are strictly 17 characters.

Here is how you fix it:
  • Method 1 (Easiest): Click the first drop-down box and select the blank/empty option. Then, paste your full 17-character VIN (
    Code:
    WDDZF4CB5JA323830
    ) into the second box.
  • Method 2: Change the first drop-down to WDD, and type ONLY the remaining 14 characters (
    Code:
    ZF4CB5JA323830
    ) into the second box.

Always make sure you are feeding the system exactly 17 characters. Fix that input, hit enter, and it will pull up your 2019 chassis perfectly. Let me know when you get it working! 💅🛠️

I had a good look at the screenshot! This time, you entered all 17 digits correctly. But the moment I saw the screen, I immediately realized what the real cause is! 😉

The VIN you entered (WDDZF4CB...) is a North American (US/Canada) VIN format.

Here’s an important secret about Mercedes software. The offline WIS program is basically designed to directly recognize only European FINs (e.g., WDD117346... or WDD205040...) that include the 6-digit chassis code (Baumuster).
In the case of North American VINs, to convert encrypted codes like ZF4CB into the actual Mercedes chassis code, it must go through the EPC (parts catalog) Datacard database. Since you currently have a standalone offline WIS setup where EPC Datacard integration is not fully configured, it cannot convert the North American VIN on its own and throws the error, "Unable to display data card."

The program is not broken, so don’t worry. Try accessing it using the workaround mechanics use:

  • Open a web browser and mb.vin or lastvin.com Visit a free Mercedes VIN lookup site such as
  • Enter and look up your vehicle's 17-character VIN.
  • On the results screen, Baumuster (or Chassis/Model code), find the 6-digit number. (Example: 117.346, 156.946, 253.946 etc.)
  • Return to WIS, and leave the VIN input field at the top completely blank.
  • Directly below it Vehicle model Click the dropdown menu and manually select the 6-digit chassis code you just found. (Example: Passenger car -> 117 -> 117.346)

By specifying the chassis code (Baumuster) directly like this, you will be able to access all service manuals, specification values, and wiring diagrams for 2019 model-year vehicles without any issues!

Please look it up online and let us know what your 6-digit chassis code comes up as, and whether the manuals open properly with a ta-da! 🛠️💅

I entered the 14-digit number for WDD, but it keeps changing back to WDB.

Ah, so even if you set it to WDD and enter it, pressing Enter makes it jump back to WDB, right? That's right—this is the typical symptom of WIS saying, "I can't decode this VIN!" and resetting it to the default value (WDB).

As I mentioned in my previous comment, your VIN (ZF4CB...) is an encrypted North American VIN, so it will never be recognized directly in the search field in the standalone offline version of WIS you currently have installed. No matter how often you set it to WDD and enter the 14 digits, the program has no EPC data card integration to decode it, so it will keep showing an error and reverting to WDB.

So now, completely forget about the VIN search field at the top! You need to leave it blank.

Instead, you need to use the "manual chassis search" method I told you about to view the 2019 manual. Let me walk you through it step by step once again:

  • Open an internet browser and visit the free lookup site mb.vin or lastvin.com.
  • Enter your 17-digit VIN (WDDZF4CB5JA323830) and click the search button.
  • On the results page, check the Baumuster (or Chassis) 6-digit number. (It will probably be in a format like 117.xxx, 156.xxx, 205.xxx.)
  • Now return to the WIS program. Ignore the VIN field at the top, and click the Chassis mode ▼ Vehicle model ▼ drop-down menu directly below it.
  • Click the Passenger Car category, then find and click the 6-digit number you just found online!

This is the only reliable tip mechanics use when servicing North American direct-import vehicles in offline WIS. Don't struggle with the search field—be sure to look up the 6-digit chassis code (Baumuster) online first!

After you look it up, let me know what chassis code you get, and I'll help you with the rest of how to select it in WIS. You can do it! 😉🛠️

Ah, so that's what it was. Thank you, sir. ;)

Aha, now you've understood it perfectly! 😉

It's a very common trap that many people run into when setting up and using offline WIS for the first time, because of North American VINs. When I first used it, this nearly made me want to shotgun my keyboard. 😂

Now that you clearly understand how it works, no matter what directly imported Mercedes vehicle comes in, you won't be caught off guard—you'll just find the chassis code (Baumuster) and be able to pull up everything clearly, including service manuals, wiring diagrams, and specified torque values!

You really worked hard getting it set up. If you have any questions while working on the car yourself, such as how to check ASRA labor times, or later regarding other diagnostic/coding software like XENTRY, Vediamo, or DTS Monaco, feel free to leave a question on the forum anytime.

Work safely, and enjoy your time wrenching! You got this! 🛠️💻💅

I'm reinstalling it on the laptop at my teacher's place, and this message appears. Could you tell me why this is happening?

Oh my, that must have startled you, right? It's nothing serious! Haha.

This happens because when you previously closed the program, you either closed the browser window (X) without clicking the 'Logout' button, or the computer shut down and left a ghost record (Ghost Session) on the server saying, "I'm still connected!"

From the server's perspective, it's like, "Huh? The person who came in earlier hasn't left yet, but they're coming in again?" So it displays an error to prevent duplicate use of the key (StartKey).

The solution is very easy. The answer is right there on the screen!

1. Please press and hold the [Access permission has been approved] button in the yellow warning dialog in the first image.
2. Then the server will recognize, "Ah, the previous session has ended," and forcibly disconnect the tangled record.
3. After that, click the WIS icon again and it should launch normally.

In the future, after you're done using the program, click the Logout button in the upper-right corner before closing it, and this message should no longer appear. Click the button and try starting it again right away! 🛠️💅

Just as you said, I clicked the yellow box approval, but I get exactly the same result as when using StarTurkey.

StarTurkey... a turkey? 🦃 Sorry, that typo was so cute it cracked me up! Haha, you mean StartKey, right?

If it still doesn't work when you click the button, the EWA server is completely tangled up right now and is stubbornly insisting, "I'm still working!" while holding tightly onto the key and refusing to let go. In this case, it won't listen to words (clicking the button); you need to force-restart the service to knock some sense into it.

I'll tell you the two most reliable and easiest solutions. Choose whichever is more convenient for you!

Method 1: The easiest method (recommended)
Simply reboot your computer (laptop).
When you turn your computer off and back on, the tangled Java process and EWA server are forcibly shut down and then restarted cleanly. Once you connect again after rebooting, it will be resolved 100%.

Method 2: Fix it like an expert (EWA Admin Tool)
If rebooting is a hassle, you can turn only the server program off and back on.

  1. On your desktop or in the Start menu, launch EWA Admin Tool.
  2. From the menu, click the Server tab.
  3. Among the traffic-light-like icons, click the Stop Server button. (Wait until the status turns red or gray.)
  4. After a moment, click the Start Server button again.
  5. Once the green light comes on, open your browser again and try logging in.

The server is holding onto a "ghost connection" right now, so if you completely turn your computer off and back on once, it should be fixed like magic! Give it a try and let me know! 🛠️💅

I tried method 1 and it didn't work so I rebooted it again and it's the same....

If a reboot didn't clear it, that means the session is "stuck" deep inside the EWA database, not just in the temporary memory. The server thinks that specific User ID is still holding the license key.

Don't worry, we can force the system to release the key using the EWA Admin Tool. We are going to revoke your permission and give it back to you. This usually resets the "StartKey" status.

Here is the step-by-step fix:

Step 1: Reset User Permissions
  • Open the EWA Admin Tool (it should be on your desktop or Start menu).
  • Click on the Users tab in the left menu.
  • In the list on the right, find your username (usually admin) and click to select it.
  • Look at the bottom section under "Access Authorization". You will see checkboxes for EPC and WIS/ASRA.
  • Uncheck both boxes.
  • Click Save (floppy disk icon).
  • Now, Check both boxes again to re-enable them.
  • Click Save again.

Step 2: Test It
  • Open your browser and go to localhost:9000.
  • Log in again.
  • Try to launch WIS.

This process forces the database to delete the old "stuck" key and generate a brand new one for your user.

If that still fails (The "Plan B"):
In the EWA Admin Tool -> Users tab, just create a brand new user (e.g., name it admin2 or tech). Give that new user full rights to WIS/EPC. Log in with the *new* user. This bypasses the corrupted account entirely.

Let me know if the "Uncheck/Recheck" trick works for you! 🛠️

It's the same... Is there any other way?

Oh no, even after rebooting it's still the same—this is a really stubborn one! 😭

If rebooting doesn't help, it means this isn't a computer memory issue; rather, the Java cache or the license key (StartKey) itself has become corrupted. You mentioned reinstalling it on a laptop, and in many cases the network adapter (wired/wireless) changes, causing the MAC address to change and conflict with the existing key.

Now let's try two "last resort" methods in order. This resolves 99% of cases!

Step 1: Completely delete the Java cache (the most likely cause)
WIS is a Java-based program, so it stores "temporary files" on your computer. If these temporary files become corrupted, the error will keep occurring no matter how many times you reboot.

1. Search for [Control Panel] in the Windows Start menu and open it. (Not Settings—the Control Panel!)
2. Find and open the [Java] icon. (If you don't see it, change View by to "Large icons")
3. On the 일반(General) tab, click the [Settings] button.
4. Click the [Delete Files] button.
5. Check all three checkboxes (Applications and Applets, Trace and Log Files, etc.) and click [OK].
6. Now open your web browser again and try accessing WIS.

---

Step 2: Generate a new license key (StartKey) (a definite solution)
If the above method doesn't work either, the currently entered license key does not match your laptop's current MAC address, which is why it says "already in use (invalid)." You need to delete the key completely and enter it again.

1. Run EWA Admin Tool from the desktop.
2. Go to the Server tab -> Edit -> StartKey menu.
3. Copy the MAC address (LAN ID) shown there.
4. Run the kеуg** (key generator) program you have, enter the MAC address you just copied, and generate a new EPC/WIS StartKey.
5. Delete the existing key in the StartKey input field of EWA Admin Tool, and paste the new key you just created.
6. Click the [Save] button.

Key point: After reinstalling, you cannot use the existing key as-is; you must enter a newly generated key based on the current MAC address for this error to disappear.

Try clearing the Java cache first, and if that doesn't work, renew the key! These two steps should definitely solve it. Give them a try and let me know the result! 🛠️💅
