Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble installing and activating ETKA 8.1 International (August 2026 release) on a Windows 10 64-bit VirtualBox VM (assigned with 2 CPUs and 4GB RAM).
When I double-click the ETKA 8.1 International desktop shortcut (or run it as admin), the loading cursor appears for a second, but then nothing happens and the process kills itself in the background.
Here is everything I have already done so far:
  1. Cleaned up any old ETKA folder remnants on C:\.
  2. Sorted the main directories into the root path properly: C:\ETKA and C:\ETKA\VWAU (containing DATA, Prog, Prog1, etc.).
  3. Edited the settings.ini file in the Loader folder to match the exact uppercase path: USER_FOLDER=C:\ETKA.
  4. Applied the 1.reg registry tweak.
  5. Installed both Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables (vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe) located inside the x64 folder.
  6. Ran hardlock.exe to install the emulator drivers. Both Sentinel Hardlock Key and Sentinel USB Keyare showing up perfectly fine in Device Manager without any warning triangles.
  7. Set the desktop shortcut compatibility mode to Windows 7 and ticked "Run as administrator".
Despite all of this, the program won't start. When running install.cmd or restart.cmd from the x64 folder, I keep getting the classic devcon error: "'devcon' is not recognized as an internal or external command" or "No matching devices found", even though the Sentinel virtual keys are listed in the hardware tree.
Am I missing an extra activation step, a specific regional/language Unicode setting, or is there a known issue with this specific MultiKey/Sentinel emulator on Windows 10 x64?
Any help or guidance would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
