The "incompatible recovery system" error usually indicates that the installer is looking for a specific partition structure or OS environment that matches the original MAN dealer laptop configuration (usually based on Windows XP), which differs from your current Windows 7 setup.

Since you are using a Panasonic CF-53, which is good hardware for this, here is how you should proceed:

  • Check the OS Compatibility: MAN Cats II v14 is native to Windows XP Professional SP3. Running it directly on Windows 7 (especially 64-bit) often causes the system to crash or reboot because the drivers are not compatible.
  • Virtual Machine (Recommended): The most stable way to run v14 on a Windows 7 host is to use a Virtual Machine.
    • Install VMware Player or Workstation.
    • Create a virtual machine with Windows XP SP3.
    • Install the MAN Cats suite inside that VM.
  • Compatibility Mode: If you must try on Windows 7, right-click the installer executable, go to Properties -> Compatibility, and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Also, run it as Administrator.

If the download provided is an Acronis image (.tib file) rather than a setup file, you cannot "install" it inside Windows. You would need to boot from an Acronis USB drive and restore the image to your hard drive (note: this will wipe your current Windows 7).

I tried the first 2 options ( running the setup app on XP SP3 compatibility , and using Windows virtual PC XP mode) , both leads to same attached message

Windows Virtual PC "XP Mode" is rarely sufficient for this software because it lacks the proper hardware isolation and robust USB passthrough required for the diagnostic interface (T200) to work correctly later on.

The error regarding the "incompatible recovery system" confirms that the installer is checking for a specific hard drive partition structure that exists on genuine MAN dealer laptops (specifically a hidden recovery partition or a specific drive label).

Here is the recommended path to fix this:

  1. Switch to VMware Workstation: Abandon Windows Virtual PC. Download and install VMware Workstation (Player or Pro). It emulates the hardware layer much better.
  2. Check your Source File: Most working versions of MAN Cats II v14 are distributed as Acronis True Image (.tib) files or pre-installed VMware images, precisely because the installation process is so difficult.
    • If you have a .tib file, do not try to run it. You must boot the VM with an Acronis ISO and "restore" the image to the virtual hard drive.
    • If you have a .vmdk file, just open it in VMware.
  3. Partition Workaround: If you definitely have a setup.exe installer and must install from scratch, the installer likely requires the drive to be partitioned in a specific way (e.g., C: System, D: Data/Backup). Try creating a second partition on your Virtual Machine's hard drive before running the setup.

If you continue to struggle with the installer, I highly recommend looking for the Acronis image version of v14. It bypasses the installation checks entirely because it is a clone of a working system.
