VAG Virtual Cockpit Tool — MQB Cluster Utility#

VAG Virtual Cockpit Tool vFinal — MQB Audi/VW cluster ID, EEPROM read/write, SRI & adaptations.

Quick take
VAG Virtual Cockpit Tool is a Windows utility for MQB-platform clusters (Audi/VW/Škoda/SEAT). It identifies modules, reads/writes EEPROM, handles key/ID data reads, and performs service interval operations—purpose-built for bench/off-road engineering and authorized workshop tasks. ✨

Thanks for sharing this resource!

This looks like a very useful utility for the MQB platform, especially given how tricky the Virtual Cockpits (AID) can be compared to the older analogue clusters.

A couple of quick questions regarding this "vFinal" release:
  • Does this support the encrypted EEPROMs found in the newer 5NA part numbers?
  • What hardware interface is required? Does it work with standard J2534 devices (like Openport 2.0), or is a VAS5054A/6154 required?

I'll give this a try on a Golf MK7 retrofit and report back.

thank you

You're welcome!

If you are planning to use this on a live car, please make sure to backup your original EEPROM and Coding before attempting any write operations. Virtual Cockpits (AID) are quite sensitive, and having a recovery point is essential.

Let us know which model and part number you test it on!

Hello,

Regarding your questions:

1. VCDS Compatibility: No, you generally cannot use this software with a VCDS cable (version 17.8 or otherwise). VCDS cables are proprietary interfaces designed specifically for Ross-Tech software. For this tool, you will likely need a J2534 Pass-Thru device (like a Tactrix Openport 2.0) or a VAS5054A / VAS6154 interface.

2. Tutorial: There isn't a specific official video for this tool, but the workflow is usually similar to other engineering utilities:
  • Connect your J2534/VAS interface to the OBD port.
  • Launch the software.
  • Identify the cluster.
  • CRITICAL: Always use "Read EEPROM" first to save a full backup bin file before doing anything else.

Please be very careful. MQB Virtual Cockpits are sensitive, and writing incorrect data can brick the unit (black screen). If you are new to this, I recommend reading more about MQB cluster structures first.

Thank you so much

You're welcome!

Good luck with the tool. Just remember to keep a battery charger connected to the car while working on the cluster, as these operations can sometimes take a little while and you don't want the voltage to drop.

Be extremely careful. MQB Virtual Cockpits are sensitive, and entering incorrect data can render the unit unusable (black screen). If you are new to this, I recommend learning about MQB cluster structures beforehand.

I also have the Godiag GT109 cable.
Can I use it?

I have also the cable Godiag GT109
Can i use it ?

The Godiag GT109 is typically an ENET (Ethernet) cable, which is mostly used for BMW F/G series or vehicles requiring DoIP (Diagnostics over IP).

This VAG Virtual Cockpit software generally communicates with the cluster via CAN Bus (UDS) using the J2534 standard. It does not usually use a direct Ethernet connection for these operations.

Therefore, the GT109 will likely not work.

You need a J2534 Pass-Thru interface. If you want to stick with the Godiag brand, the Godiag GD101 J2534 is the correct cable for this type of work. Otherwise, a Tactrix Openport 2.0 or VAS5054A is recommended.

Yes, the Xhorse Mini VCI (MVCI) with J2534 drivers should theoretically work, but this interface is known to cause issues with some VAG-specific tools.

Here are a few things to check:

1. Driver Version
Make sure you are using the correct J2534 driver for the Xhorse Mini VCI, not the Toyota TIS Techstream driver. Sometimes people install the wrong one. Try reinstalling the proper J2534 DLL.

2. J2534 DLL Path
Check if the software is detecting the correct J2534 DLL. Some tools allow you to manually select the DLL path. Look in:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS\
or wherever your J2534 driver was installed. The DLL file is usually something like mvci32.dll or J2534.dll.

3. USB Connection
  • Try a different USB port (use USB 2.0, not 3.0)
  • Avoid USB hubs
  • Check Device Manager to confirm the device is recognized without errors

4. Ignition ON
Make sure the ignition is ON (not just ACC) when you click Identify. The cluster must be powered and communicating on the CAN bus.

5. Compatibility Issue
Honestly, the Xhorse Mini VCI is a budget interface originally designed for Toyota. It can be unreliable with VAG J2534 tools. If you continue getting "Cannot read interface" after checking everything above, the interface may simply not be fully compatible with this software.

If budget allows, a Tactrix Openport 2.0 or Godiag GD101 J2534 would be a much more reliable choice for this type of work.
