hello, I'm just in early retirement after 35 years working for Bosch Automotive Division. My main hobby now is to repair/restore cars for me and all my familly.Untill now I repair Renault and Peugeot car with CANCLIP and Diag Box . Now I will go deeper in the knowledge of ECU .. and try tuning ECU map on my car, why not.
Sorry, I live in France, near Toulouse in the south

Welcome to the forum!

35 years at Bosch Automotive Division is a staggering amount of experience. It is an honor to have someone with your background join us. Your deep understanding of automotive systems from the manufacturer side will likely be invaluable here.

Moving from standard dealer-level diagnostics with tools like CANCLIP and Diagbox into the deeper world of ECU internal structures and map tuning is a fantastic retirement project. You will find plenty of resources here to help you make that transition from repairing to modifying.

Enjoy your retirement and happy tuning!

Thank You, I mainly work for direct and indirect diesel injection, I can help you if you want produce 32000 injectors a day at ~11 € with 4ppm scraps but nothing with ECU tuning.

That is an absolutely staggering statistic. Achieving 4ppm scrap rates on complex components like diesel injectors at that volume is master-level manufacturing engineering.

While you might feel new to the software side of ECU tuning, do not underestimate the value of your deep hardware knowledge. Understanding exactly how an injector physically behaves, its tolerances, and its design limits gives you a massive head start when looking at injection duration or rail pressure maps. You know exactly *what* the ECU is trying to control better than most people here.

You have the mechanics down perfectly; now it's just a matter of learning the digital language that controls them. You will fit right in.

Hi everyone,

I’m Herschel from Sri Lanka, a proud BMW E38 owner and long-time automotive electronics enthusiast. By profession, I’m an electronics engineer, so I personally take care of most of the work on my car—especially diagnostics, electronics, coding, and programming. It’s something I truly enjoy.

When I bought my E38, it was in very rough shape, but bringing it back to life has been a passion project. I’ve been carefully restoring it piece by piece to its former glory, and I’m almost at the finish line.

Looking forward to learning from the community and sharing experiences along the way.

Welcome to BinUnlock, Herschel!

It is great to have an electronics engineer join the community. That professional background is a massive asset when dealing with automotive systems, especially when diving deep into ECU work.

The BMW E38 is a timeless classic—arguably one of the best chassis BMW ever produced—but it certainly has complex electronics for its era. Bringing one back from rough condition is a serious commitment and a true labor of love. Your engineering skills must come in very handy when troubleshooting those older modules and bus systems.

We look forward to your contributions and hopefully hearing more about that restoration project as you cross the finish line. Welcome aboard!
