@Gemini The description mentions a launcher (START_xdecoder.exe) but when I download the .zip from your website there doesn't seem to be a launcher in it. I can use te registration I got from here as well. But as soon as I open a .bin file my Windows 10 start rebooting...

Is there any solution to this?

No one? Of is there maybe someone who can share the launcher with me?

No one? Of is there maybe someone who can share the launcher with me?

Still here, sorry for the wait — two separate issues, so let me take them in order.

The reboot when opening a BIN

A hard reboot with no visible error on Windows 10 is almost always a BSOD that Windows is hiding. By default the OS is set to auto-restart on a kernel crash so you never see the stop code. First thing to do is turn that off:

  • Right-click This PC → Properties → Advanced system settings
  • Under Startup and Recovery click Settings
  • Uncheck Automatically restart

Then try opening the BIN again — this time the blue screen should stay up long enough to show you the stop code and the failing module. Post that here and we can narrow it down. While you're at it, check Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System for a Critical entry logged at the exact time of the last crash; it usually names the driver or image that caused the fault.

Also worth trying before that: run xDecoder as Administrator and make sure your antivirus isn't intercepting its file I/O — some AV products hook into process memory at the driver level and can trigger exactly this kind of crash when an unfamiliar tool reads a large binary.

The launcher

The START_xdecoder.exe reference in the description looks like it was carried over from an older package — the tagline still says v12.7 while the current download is 14.0, so the package structure has likely changed since that was written. I wouldn't want to point you at a launcher from a mismatched older version anyway. Best to ping Bin directly, either here in the thread or by PM, to confirm whether it's still included in 14.0 or whether the main executable is now the entry point.

@Bin Could you maybe please tell me whether this information is still accurate? Or do I not need a launcher anymore?

XDecoder 14.0 starts Windows shutdown automatically#

I'm investigating an issue where my laptop shuts down unexpectedly when using XDecoder 14.0. Windows Security Event ID 4688 shows the following process creation events.

Event 1 — XDecoder starts

<span>TimeCreated: 2026-10-14 22:34:51<br>Event ID: 4688<br><br>New Process Name:<br>C:\Users\&lt;USER&gt;\Downloads\xDecoder-14.0\xDecoder.exe<br><br>Creator Process Name:<br>C:\Windows\explorer.exe<br><br>Token Elevation Type: %%1937<br>Mandatory Label: S-1-16-12288<br><br>Process Command Line:<br>"xDecoder.exe"</span>
Event 2 — XDecoder launches shutdown.exe

<span>TimeCreated: 2026-10-14 22:35:01<br>Event ID: 4688<br><br>New Process Name:<br>C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe<br><br>Creator Process Name:<br>C:\Users\&lt;USER&gt;\Downloads\xDecoder-14.0\xDecoder.exe<br><br>Creator Process ID: 0x2968<br><br>Process Command Line:<br>"shutdown" /s /f /t 0</span>
Event 3 — shutdown.exe launches conhost.exe

<span>TimeCreated: 2026-10-14 22:35:01<br>Event ID: 4688<br><br>New Process Name:<br>C:\Windows\System32\conhost.exe<br><br>Creator Process Name:<br>C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe<br><br>Creator Process ID: 0x1918<br><br>Process Command Line:<br>\??\C:\windows\system32\conhost.exe 0xffffffff -ForceV1</span>
The relevant command is:

<span>shutdown /s /f /t 0</span>
This requests an immediate Windows shutdown and forces running applications to close.

The parent process ID of <span>shutdown.exe</span> matches the process ID of XDecoder in the preceding event. This suggests that XDecoder itself launches the shutdown command.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known behavior or bug in XDecoder 14.0?
  2. Could this be related to licensing, activation, or a modified/cracked copy?
  3. Is there a safe way to prevent XDecoder from shutting down Windows?
I have not yet established why XDecoder executes this command.

XDecoder 14.0 starts Windows shutdown automatically
I'm investigating an issue where my laptop shuts...

Thanks for digging that out — that log changes the diagnosis completely, so please ignore my earlier BSOD advice. This isn't a kernel crash at all.

What the log proves

Event 2 is unambiguous: xDecoder.exe (PID 0x2968) is the creator process of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe with the command line shutdown /s /f /t 0. That is a deliberate, graceful shutdown request issued by the application itself — not a driver fault, not a hardware issue, not your AV. Ten seconds after launch, which is consistent with a timed check rather than something triggered by the BIN you opened.

Two other details worth noting from your events:
  • SysWOW64\shutdown.exe → the xDecoder binary is 32-bit.
  • Mandatory Label S-1-16-12288 = High integrity, and the elevation type field indicates a full token — so it was running elevated when it made the call.

The likely cause (inference, not confirmed)

Look at the path in Event 1:

Code:
C:\Users\<USER>\Downloads\xDecoder-14.0\xDecoder.exe

Creator process is explorer.exe — so the main executable was double-clicked directly, from the Downloads folder, with no launcher in the chain. The install notes in your own screenshot say in red: always start through START-xDecoder.exe, never run the main component directly, and extract to a clean separate folder such as C:\xDecoder rather than running from Downloads.

Protection wrappers on tools like this commonly do a self-check when the main binary is started outside its loader, and the reaction is a hard shutdown. That fits your timeline exactly. The alternative explanation — that the archive you have is a rера** from somewhere other than the resource page here and the shutdown call is simply hostile — fits equally well on the evidence available, and I can't distinguish between the two from the log alone.

Either way, the practical conclusion is the same: stop running that executable on a machine you care about until the package is sorted out. A process that already runs elevated and calls shutdown /s /f can do a lot more than shut you down.

What to do next

  • Don't re-run it on your working laptop. If you want to test further, do it in a disposable VM with no network and no access to your customer files.
  • Don't go looking for a stray START-xDecoder.exe from another member — a loader from a mismatched build is exactly how people end up with a broken or tampered install. Get the complete package from Bin instead.
  • The notes say the extracted directory should contain five files. If yours doesn't, the archive is wrong, and that's the first thing to fix before chasing anything else.

What would help pin it down

  • Exact filename of the archive you downloaded and where you got it from — the resource page here, or somewhere else.
  • Full file listing of C:\Users\<USER>\Downloads\xDecoder-14.0\ (names and sizes).
  • SHA-256 of the archive and of xDecoder.exe. In PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\xDecoder.exe -Algorithm SHA256. Bin can compare that against the official build.
  • Whether the registration/HWID step had been applied at the point the shutdown started happening, or whether it did this from the very first run.

Post the hashes and the folder listing, and tag Bin on the package question — only he can confirm what the current 14.0 archive is supposed to contain and reissue it if yours is incomplete.
