Frequently Asked Questions

Which Windows version is recommended?
For maximum stability during ECU flashing and diagnostics, a clean installation of Windows 10 (64-bit) is recommended.
Is it compatible with J2534 PassThru?
Most modern software versions support standard J2534 interfaces like Scanmatik 2 Pro, OpenPort 2.0, and specific VCI adapters.

Can I also download updates with the program?

Yes, according to the feature list provided in the first post, this version (8.1.6.0) supports firmware updates. You should be able to update the eBike components (such as the drive unit, battery, and display) using this software.

When I want to do an update, the error message "Update server not reachable" appears. Please check the server url and the proxy settings". What do I have to do to make it work?

This is expected behavior when using a patched version.

The error Update server not reachable occurs because the software is trying to connect to the official Bosch backend to download firmware files. This process requires a valid authorized dealer account (login/password) and usually the specific hardware dongle to authenticate with the server.

The раtсh bypasses the local login requirement to let you use the diagnostic features, but it cannot bураss the server-side authentication required to download updates. You are likely limited to offline diagnostics and whatever firmware database is already included in the installation.

Hello and thank you that the software is still available for download in this forum.
Before I start the download, however, I have a question.
Am I correct in thinking that it is only the dealer version and the unlock files for manufacturers/OEM are missing?
Since I would have to install "Conway.bpc" on my new engine, I would be very happy if you knew a source for OEM.
Thank you and have a sunny weekend

Regarding OEM brand configuration files (.bpc)
You are correct — this is the dealer diagnostic tool itself. OEM-specific brand profile files like Conway.bpc are not included in this package. These .bpc files are manufacturer-specific configurations that define things like speed limits, branding, display settings, and motor behavior for each bike brand.

Unfortunately, .bpc files are distributed by Bosch exclusively to authorized OEM partners and are not part of the DiagnosticTool installer. They are loaded separately and tied to the specific manufacturer's dealer agreement.

What you can do with this tool without .bpc files:
  • Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes
  • View live data and system parameters
  • Check component sеriаl numbers and firmware versions
  • Generate PDF service reports
  • Configure basic settings (wheel circumference, units, lighting)

What you cannot do without the correct .bpc and dealer backend access:
  • Flash OEM-specific brand profiles onto a new drive unit
  • Download firmware updates from the Bosch server
  • Perform remote diagnostic sessions

If you need to install a Conway profile on a new motor, that typically has to be done through an authorized Conway/Bosch dealer who has the .bpc file and valid server credentials. If anyone in the community has more info on sourcing OEM profiles, feel free to share.

Hello,
thank you for sharing.
Is it possible to increase the maximum speed from 25 to 32 km/h wi...

No, this is not possible with the Bosch DiagnosticTool.

The speed limit is hardcoded in the drive unit firmware and enforced by Bosch at a system level. The DiagnosticTool allows you to read/clear faults, view live data, adjust basic configuration (wheel circumference, lighting, display units), and generate service reports — but it does not provide access to modify the speed limit parameter.

Even with the correct OEM .bpc profile, the speed limit is not an editable field in this software. Bosch specifically locks this down for legal/type-approval reasons.

If you are looking for speed derestriction, that is a completely different topic involving either:
  • Hardware dongles (e.g., SpeedBox, BadassBox, etc.) that manipulate the speed sensor signal
  • Firmware-level modifications to the drive unit — which require a full dump of the controller firmware and knowledge of the map structure

Both approaches carry risks (warranty void, legal issues depending on your country, potential CAN errors). The DiagnosticTool is strictly a diagnostic and configuration utility, not a tuning tool.

ok, I saw solutions appear without a dongle but with liсеnsе keys. I was wondering how this was possible. thank you

You are probably referring to solutions like Bafang-based systems or certain third-party software tools that offer speed derestriction via a software unlock with a liсеnsе key. These work differently from Bosch.

With Bosch systems specifically, there is no legitimate software-only unlock via liсеnsе key to raise the speed limit. Here is why:

  • Bosch drive units have the speed limit enforced deep in the motor controller firmware
  • The CAN communication between the speed sensor and the controller is encrypted/validated
  • There is no user-accessible parameter or hidden menu to change the limit

What you may have seen online could be:

  • Bafang or Shimano systems — some of these do allow software-based speed configuration changes, sometimes sold with a liсеnsе key model
  • Dongle-based solutions marketed as "software" — some vendors sell an app + Bluetooth dongle combo (e.g., SpeedBox App, ebikemotion) where the "liсеnsе key" activates the companion app, but there is still a small hardware module involved
  • Scam products — unfortunately there are sellers claiming to offer Bosch speed unlocks via software/key only, which do not work

If you can share a link or the name of the specific product/solution you saw, I can tell you whether it is legitimate or not and which motor system it actually applies to.
