That makes total sense — the older gold box clones are known to have compatibility issues with the v3.x branch. The hardware handshake changed somewhere around the v2.x to v3.x transition, so the gold box gets stuck or throws connection errors on newer builds.

here's 2.1.5.6, works with my blackbox clone, i'm sure it's fine with gold box, anti virus needs to be off, it remove's the exe. goodluck

Hello, has anyone managed to install AMT BST ECU Bench Tool version 3.1.3.5? If so, I asked for it to be shared. I received this version, installed the drivers manually, but it didn't help. Maybe it's due to the Windows version; I'm out of ideas. I have different laptops—has anyone downloaded a working version from here?

Hi! The issue with v3.1.3.5 that you describe (drivers installed manually, but the tool does not connect to the interface) is quite common. Let's go through a few things:

1. Check the basics:

What interface exactly do you have — black box clone, gold box, or another variant?
Which Windows version — and 32/64-bit?
do you see an AMT BST device / COM port in Device Manager after connecting the USB cable?

2. Most common causes of the problem:

Hardware incompatibility — v3.x requires newer firmware in the interface. Older clones (gold box, some black box units) simply do not support the v3 protocol. If that is the case for you, stick with v2.1.5.6 (link above).
USB drivers — try uninstalling the drivers completely, disconnecting the cable, restarting the laptop, and installing the drivers from the package before connecting the interface.
Windows 11 — it can be problematic. The best stability is on a clean Windows 10 x64.
Antivirus / Defender — as the member above mentioned, disable real-time protection before installation. Defender tends to remove exe files from tools like these.

I only received one piece of advice: that Windows 10 64-bit is suitable. I have the gold version, I do not see the AMT BST device in Device Manager, and that is the biggest problem.

Right, that is the key problem — if Device Manager does not see the AMT BST at all after connecting the USB, the software has nothing to communicate with. Let’s solve it step by step:

Step 1 — Check whether Windows reacts to the connection at all

Disconnect the gold box from the USB
Open Device Manager
Connect the USB cable to the gold box and then to the PC
Watch whether anything appears — even as an "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle

If nothing appears:

Try a different USB cable — this is the most common cause with these clones; many cables are charge-only and have no data wires
Try a different USB port — preferably one directly on the motherboard (at the back of a desktop PC), not through a hub or the front panel
Try a different notebook/PC — this will rule out a problem with the USB controller

Step 2 — If an "Unknown device" or a yellow triangle appears

That is actually good news — it means the hardware is communicating, and only the correct driver is missing.

Right-click the unknown device → Update driver
Select "Browse my computer for drivers"
Point it to the Device Driver folder from the AMT BST package
Let Windows install the driver

Step 3 — Software version for the gold box

After installing the controller drivers, the Benech tool is recognized as a USB serial converter, but on another computer it is recognized as a missing FT232EX module. Manually installing the drivers does not change anything.

OK, so we have two different states on two PCs — that tells us a lot:

PC 1 — recognized as "USB Serial Converter" → that's actually good; the FTDI driver is correct

PC 2 — shows "FT232EX" with a missing driver → the FTDI driver is not installed correctly

Solution

The gold box uses an FTDI FT232 chip for USB communication. Drivers from the AMT BST package sometimes do not work properly because they are old or unsigned. The best procedure:

1. Download the original FTDI drivers directly from the chip manufacturer:

Download the VCP Driver (Virtual COM Port) for Windows 10 x64 and install it manually.

2. Installation procedure:

Disconnect the gold box from USB
Uninstall the old FTDI drivers through Device Manager (right-click → Uninstall device → check "Delete the driver software")
Restart the PC
Install the downloaded FTDI VCP drivers
Restart the PC again
Only then connect the gold box

3. After connecting, check in Device Manager:

You should see under Ports (COM & LPT) → "USB Serial Port (COMx)"
Remember the COM port number — you will need it in the AMT BST software

4. In the AMT BST software (v2.1.5.6):

Run as administrator (right-click → Run as administrator)
Select the correct COM port in the settings
Try connecting to the ECU

Important warning about FTDI clones

Some gold boxes use a fake/cloned FTDI chip. Newer FTDI drivers (from version 2.12+) can detect these clones and intentionally block them — the device then stops working or the COM port appears but with an error.

If the device stops responding after installing the new drivers:

Use an older version of the FTDI driver — v2.10.0.0 or 2.08.30
These older versions do not block cloned chips

The AMT BST Clone Driver tool is not related to the SM2 Pro device — they are two completely different tools:

AMT BST Clone Driver — is a driver/software for AMT BST devices (original or clone) for reading and writing ECU/TCU modules via OBD or Bench
SM2 Pro — is a completely separate device with its own software (FlashOBD or SM2 Pro Software)

If you have a Chinese SM2 Pro (clone):

, you need the software specifically for SM2 Pro, not AMT BST.
The Chinese clone version usually works with a specific software version — tell us exactly which version you have (J2, J3, etc.) and what the firmware version is.
