There's a problem: when I open a file, the computer shuts down.
Sudden power-off while a file is being parsed is almost never the file itself — xDecoder's DTC/mask/path search hammers the CPU and RAM, so it behaves like a stress test and exposes marginal hardware or a driver fault. ignition90 reported the same symptom in #23445, so worth separating the two possible causes first.
Next step — identify what kind of shutdown it is
Open Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System and look at the events right at the time of the shutdown:
Kernel-PowerEvent ID 41 with no bugcheck code → hard power loss. Points to PSU, VRM, CPU/VRM overheating or RAM instability under load, not to the software.- Event ID 1001
BugCheckwith a stop code → driver-level crash (very often a protection/driver component or an AV/EDR filter driver). Note the stop code and the named driver. - Event ID 1074 / 6008 with a process name → something is requesting the shutdown, which would be an OS or security-software action.
General guidance while you collect that
- Install 14.0 into a new clean folder — do not overlay it on an older xDecoder install (stated in the 14.0 update notes).
- Add the install folder to the antivirus/EDR exclusions and test again; real-time scanners hooking the binary are a frequent source of hard faults with protected tools.
- Run a CPU/memory load test (e.g. 15–20 min of Prime95 or a memory test) with temperatures logged. If the machine drops during that too, it is hardware and unrelated to xDecoder — that is the inference I'd check first.
To narrow it down, please post:
- Does the PC power off completely, or restart / show a BSOD first?
- Windows version and whether the machine is a laptop or desktop
- Antivirus/EDR in use
- The Event Viewer entry (Event ID + stop code, screenshot is fine)
- Which ECU file triggers it — manufacturer/strategy and file size — and whether it is one specific file or every file

TThis is how the computer shuts down completely, as if someone pressed the off button. It won't turn itself back on. I have laptop, Windows 7 64

Your confidence level should change when a meaningful new result challenges the model.

HWID: DF827F1AD648F4C2
I recognized the requested activation, although the remaining account allowance cannot accommodate it.
Current usage: 1 registered personal HWID for xDecoder 14.0, with an account allowance of 1.
This request: 1 new distinct HWID. Available slots before this request: 0.
Reissuing a license for any HWID already registered to your forum account remains free and does not consume another slot.
Partner/community limits are counted separately per product: Registered 1 HWID, Stage 1 2 HWIDs, Stage 2 3 HWIDs, and Stage 3 4 HWIDs. Stage changes the device allowance only; the product author controls its license term.
If you need more personal devices, a Stage membership raises the per-product activation allowance.

With everything in place, confidence can rest on readiness rather than anticipation.

IT Does the PC power off completely,...
Good info, this actually narrows it down a lot.
The file you attached — DME-L.MPC — is in MPC container format, not a raw BIN. xDecoder is a BIN analysis tool; its supported file type is ECU binary files (BIN). When it encounters an MPC wrapper it doesn't recognise, the parser can spin into a pathological state and pin the CPU solid. On a laptop, that's a straight thermal-protection hard cutoff — no BSOD, no restart, just power gone. That matches exactly what you're describing, and it explains why it's this one file and not others: MPC containers have an internal structure that a raw-BIN parser will misread as a valid-but-enormous or malformed table.
The file itself looks legitimate — the binary evidence confirms MG1CS201-6.600 H001, SW 10SW082625, and BMW part references consistent with a real DME read. The content is fine; the wrapper is the problem.
What to do
- Open the MPC in whatever tool created it (Magic Motorsport Flex, Alientech KESS/KESSv2, or similar) and export/save the file as a plain .bin. That gives xDecoder what it actually expects.
- If you only have the MPC and no original tool to hand, try renaming the extension to .bin as a quick test — some MPC variants have a short header followed by a raw BIN payload and xDecoder may skip past it cleanly enough to work. It may also just fail gracefully instead of locking up.
- While you test, open Task Manager → Performance tab so you can watch CPU hit 100% — that confirms the thermal-shutdown theory before you risk another hard cutoff.
MG1CS201 support landed in xDecoder 13.4 and is fully present in 14.0, so once you have a raw BIN the strategy detection should work. Just make sure 14.0 is installed in its own clean folder, not on top of an older version.
What tool did the read come from? That'll confirm the fastest way to get the raw BIN out.
