MS45 Flasher is a focused Windows utility for identifying, reading and writing supported BMW Siemens MS45/MS45.1 engine-control units through EDIABAS. Its interface separates full-binary, program, tune and MPC operations so an experienced technician can choose the correct memory area instead of treating every file as interchangeable.
Supported vehicles, ECUs and files#
BMW technical material associates the MS45 family with M54/M56 applications including E46, E60, E83 X3 and E85 Z4, with MS45.0 or MS45.1 depending on chassis, engine and transmission. Support must be confirmed from the DME identification shown by the tool—hardware, software, VIN and diagnostic protocol—not from chassis alone.- Supported Siemens MS45 and MS45.1 DME variants reached through a working BMW EDIABAS installation.
- Common M54/M56-era chassis contexts such as E46, E60, E83 and E85, subject to exact DME identification.
- Program, calibration/tune, MPC and full-binary file types exposed separately by the application.
Functions#
- Identify the connected DME and display hardware/software, VIN and communication information.
- Load the matching SGBD/PRG definition used by EDIABAS.
- Read ECU data or open an existing binary for comparison.
- Program the supported program or tune area, or perform full/MPC operations when the recovery procedure requires them.
System and hardware requirements#
- Windows with a correctly installed EDIABAS/INPA data environment.
- A compatible BMW K-line/DCAN/bench interface and the correct MS45 PRG/SGBD files.
- Stable battery support, a reliable USB connection and disabled sleep/hibernation during writing.
- A complete verified backup and a recovery-capable bench/boot plan before full or MPC operations.
Recommended workflow#
- Establish normal diagnostics and identify the DME before selecting a file operation.
- Read and hash the available areas; save the identification and original VIN/software data.
- Match the edited file to the correct program or tune region and validate checksums externally where required.
- Write with stable voltage, do not interrupt the session, then rescan and confirm engine operation and coding.
