VAG MED/EDC17 CVNfix 2.4.0#
VAG MED/EDC17 CVNfix is a professional ECU file-processing utility for supported Volkswagen Group Bosch MED17 and EDC17 control units.
The software compares an original ECU file with its modified version, identifies calibration information, calculates the CVN, detects mismatches and validates the checksums of individual software blocks.
It can then correct the required CVN data, repair supported checksum blocks and save a corrected ECU file.
Main Functions#
- Load original and modified ECU files side by side
- Automatically identify supported MED17 and EDC17 files
- Display ECU type, software number and hardware number
- Display software version and CAL-ID
- Calculate and compare the original and modified CVN
- Detect OEM, modified and mismatched CVN values
- Validate checksums for individual ECU software blocks
- Show the number of valid and failed checksums
- Correct the CVN in supported modified files
- Correct CVN and checksums in a single operation
- Apply a manual раtсh where required
- Save the corrected file separately
- Display detailed processing information in the integrated logs
Detected ECU Information#
When a compatible file is loaded, the program can display:- ECU family
- Software identification
- Software version
- Hardware number
- Software number
- CAL-ID
- Calculated CVN
- Database CVN, when available
- Checksum status for each detected software block
The original and modified files are displayed in separate panels, making it easy to compare their identification data, CVN values and checksum results.
CVN Comparison and Correction#
The Calibration Verification Number is calculated from the ECU calibration data. When a calibration file is modified, its calculated CVN may no longer match the expected original value.VAG MED/EDC17 CVNfix clearly displays the condition of each loaded file:
- OEM — the detected CVN matches the expected original calibration
- MODIFIED — the file contains modified calibration data
- MISMATCH — the calculated CVN does not match the required target
The program provides the following correction options:
- Fix CVN — corrects the CVN data in a supported file
- Fix CVN + Checksums — performs CVN correction together with supported checksum repairs
- Manual раtсh — provides an additional manual correction method
- Save Corrected File — saves the processed result as a separate file
Checksum Validation#
The software analyzes the detected ECU software blocks and reports their individual checksum status.Depending on the ECU file, the displayed blocks may include:
- Customer blocks
- Customer tuning protection
- Tuning protection
- Startup blocks
- Variant datasets
- Application software
- Calibration datasets
Basic Workflow#
- Keep an untouched backup of the original ECU read.
- Launch VAG_MED_EDC17_Tool_v2.4.0.exe.
- Load the original ECU file in the ORIGINAL FILE section.
- Load the tuned or otherwise modified file in the MODIFIED FILE section.
- Compare the detected ECU information, CAL-ID and CVN values.
- Review the checksum status for both files.
- Use Fix CVN or Fix CVN + Checksums, depending on the required operation.
- Review the messages displayed in the program logs.
- Click Save Corrected File and save the result under a new filename.
- Verify the corrected file before programming it back to the ECU.
CVN Database Information#
The integrated database may be used to compare supported CAL-ID and OEM CVN combinations. Not every ECU calibration is necessarily included in the database. A missing database entry does not automatically mean that the loaded file is modified. It may simply be a calibration version that has not yet been added.
Always compare the original and modified files and review all identification, CVN and checksum information before applying a correction.

Important Notes#
- Always preserve the untouched original ECU file
- Never overwrite the only available copy of the original read
- Use files read with a compatible professional ECU programmer
- Confirm that the original and modified files belong to the same ECU software
- Review the detected ECU, CAL-ID, CVN and checksum information carefully
- Save corrected files under a separate filename
- Verify the resulting file before programming
- Use a stable power supply during ECU reading and writing
- Use the software only for authorized repair, calibration and diagnostic work
- The user is responsible for compliance with applicable laws and regulations
