BMW.rar / databases (medium)

This was only few mb large with 2 folders. Xmldata is not there

Can you tell me what those 2 folders inside BMW.rar are called? That will help narrow down what's going on.

Also, a few MB sounds way too small for the database package. BMW.rar should typically be several GB in size. A few MB suggests either:

  • The download was incomplete / corrupted
  • It's just a partial file
  • You downloaded the wrong file

Can you check these things and post back:

  1. Exact file size of BMW.rar (in MB)
  2. Names of those 2 folders inside it
  3. Go back to the first post and list ALL download links you see — every single one (direct links, tоrrеnt links, mega links, whatever is there)

There might be a separate download link you're overlooking. Some OPs split the files across multiple links and it's easy to miss one. The XMLData has to be somewhere — ISTA 4.57 cannot function without it.

In bmw folder is one folder called ispi. 56mb large

Only 56MB with just an ISPI folder — that's definitely not the complete package. The full BMW.rar should be multiple GB.

I think the issue is that the download links in the first post might have been updated or split differently than expected.

Here's what I'd suggest:

Check if the archive has a password and needs full extraction:

Sometimes BMW.rar is a multi-part archive or password-protected, and incomplete extraction gives you only partial contents. Try:

  • Use 7-Zip (not WinRAR) to extract
  • Right-click → 7-Zip → Test Archive — see if it reports errors
  • Check if there are multiple parts (BMW.part1.rar, BMW.part2.rar etc.)

The ISPI folder you found:

That ISPI folder (56MB) likely contains the System Variables and registry files — it's a helper package, not the full database.

What you're actually missing:

For a working 4.57.x you need the full Rheingold installation that includes XMLData, SQLiteDBs, bin, TesterGUI etc. — this is usually several GB in size.

My recommendation:

Post a question directly in this thread asking the OP or other users for clarification on which exact download contains XMLData for version 4.57.21. Others who have it working can confirm which link they used. It's possible the main download link has been changed or a link is missing/broken.

You're not the first one with this issue so someone should be able to point you to the right file quickly.

You’re not completely wrong either — it can work in some cases with a J2534 interface (like Scanmatik) if you use a bridge layer such as PTTBMW and then choose EDIABAS inside ISTA. My earlier point was that ISTA does not natively talk J2534 directly the way many universal tools do, so without something like PTTBMW it usually won’t.

That said, whether it will work for your car depends on the model/year and protocol:

  • E-series (K-line / DCAN): Scanmatik+PTTBMW often works (if the J2534 driver is decent).
  • F-series (CAN via OBD): sometimes works, sometimes flaky (depends on ECU set + PTTBMW version).
  • G-series / newer (especially DoIP): usually no with a USB J2534 device. For DoIP you typically need ENET/ICOM (Ethernet), not a USB-only pass-thru.

What to do (the correct way to verify)
  • First confirm your Scanmatik is seen by Windows and the J2534 driver is installed properly (Scanmatik software should list the device).
  • In PTTBMW, confirm it detects the J2534 device and can start its “bridge/service” mode (whatever that version calls it).
  • Then in ISTA settings select EDIABAS as the interface type (not ENET/ICOM).
  • Test with something simple first (read VIN / vehicle identification). If it fails, note the exact ISTA/EDIABAS error (common ones are IFH-0009 / IFH-0018 etc.).

Two questions that decide everything
  • What BMW are you trying to connect to (model + year)? (Example: E90 2008 / F30 2016 / G20 2020)
  • Is your Scanmatik connected by USB only (most are), or does it have Ethernet/DoIP capability?

Post those details + the exact error message you get in ISTA (or EDIABAS), and someone can tell you straight away if it’s a configuration issue (PTTBMW/EDIABAS) or simply the wrong hardware for that chassis.
OKEY THANKS GEMINI for reply
I HAVE SM2PRO clone , i want to use it with ista but for most new generation .
i dont know what version work , can you tell me what version can work with ( im talking about software who was shared her in this forum )

First off, I'm not Gemini 😄

Regarding SM2PRO clone with ISTA — here's what you need to know:

SM2PRO compatibility with ISTA+

SM2PRO (and clones) works with ISTA+ but with some important limitations:

  • It works as an ICOM emulator — ISTA sees it as a standard ICOM interface
  • It supports diagnostics and coding on most BMW models
  • For newer generations (G-series, i-series) it gets tricky — SM2PRO clones often have issues with DoIP protocol which newer BMWs use

Which version to use:

The version shared here (4.57.x) should work with SM2PRO, but the key question is which BMW generation you're targeting:

  • F-series (F10, F30, F01 etc.) — works well with SM2PRO clone + ISTA 4.57
  • G-series (G20, G30, G05 etc.) — problematic. These use DoIP (Diagnostics over IP) and SM2PRO clones often don't support this properly
  • Very new models (2023+) — unlikely to work with a clone interface

Important:

What exact BMW model and year are you trying to work on? That will determine if SM2PRO clone is even the right tool, or if you need a different interface (like ICOM Next or genuine ISTA setup) for your specific car.

Let us know the model and we can give you a more specific answer.

your name is gemini 😄 i think you are robot no?
im okay for diagnostics and coding on most BMW models
but still does know the real step to install it i have windows 11 64bits

😄 Call me whatever you want, I'm just here to help!

Alright, here's a step-by-step guide to get ISTA+ 4.57 working with SM2PRO clone on Windows 11 64-bit:

Full Installation Guide

Step 1: Prerequisites
  • Disable Windows Defender / antivirus completely (it will block/delete files)
  • Disable Windows SmartScreen
  • Make sure you have at least 50GB free disk space (250GB+ if you want PSdZdata for coding)
  • Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) if not already installed
  • Install .NET Framework 4.8 if not already installed

Step 2: Download all files from the first post
  • Main ISTA+ archive (direct link)
  • BMW.rar (databases)
  • PSdZdata tоrrеnt (100GB — needed for coding, optional for diagnostics only)

Step 3: Extract
  • Extract the main archive to C:\Rheingold\
  • Extract BMW.rar contents into the same C:\Rheingold\ folder
  • If you downloaded PSdZdata, extract it into C:\Rheingold\PSdZ\

Step 4: Registry & System Variables
  • Run the .reg file that came with the install (right-click → Merge)
  • Run System Variables.cmd as Administrator (or create one as we discussed earlier)
  • Reboot

Step 5: SM2PRO Setup
  • Install SM2PRO drivers (from the USB stick that came with your clone)
  • Connect SM2PRO via USB to your PC
  • Open SM2PRO software and make sure firmware is updated
  • Set SM2PRO to ICOM mode — this is critical

Step 6: Launch ISTA+
  • Run ISTA as Administrator (always!)
  • Go to Settings → Network/Interface
  • Select your SM2PRO — it should appear as an ICOM device
  • Connect OBD cable to the car, turn ignition ON
  • Click "Read Vehicle" and ISTA should start communicating

Troubleshooting tips for Windows 11:
  • If ISTA won't start — run in Windows 10 compatibility mode
  • If SM2PRO is not detected — check Device Manager for driver issues
  • Always run as Administrator
  • Keep antivirus disabled while using ISTA

Regarding your XMLData issue from before — you still need to sort that out first. Without XMLData, ISTA won't start at all. Ask in the thread for the correct download link as we discussed.

Once you get ISTA running, come back and we'll help with SM2PRO connection if needed! 👍

Hello just attempted to install Ista 4.57.30 from this website. Am I the only one struggling to find bmw.rar? I can't get the program to open, it says make sure your configuration is valid. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you great work Sir

I've downloaded the 4.57.30 zip archive from here and I'm a bit confused. installation.txt says to

**Step 3. Extract config data**
1. Go to:
`C:\ISTA+4.57.30\config\`
2. Unpack `BMW.rar` to:
`C:\ProgramData\`

But BMW.rar was not included in the ZIP file. When I look at the contents, there are two tоrrеnt files not mentioned in the instructions:
ISTA+4.57.30 Standalone.tоrrеnt
v4.57.30_PSdZData.7z.tоrrеnt

So I downloaded ISTA+4.57.30 Standalone.tоrrеnt and see that it's the same files included in the ZIP, but with the addition of the missing BMW.rar. It also has its own installation.txt file which is different from the one in the ZIP, so am I supposed to overwrite everything from the ZIP with the tоrrеnt?

My immediate need is to just diagnose and not program, so I plan on ignoring PSDZdata.

I've been stuck at the exact same place for the last 3 days, if you find a solution please do update

I compared the sizes of all the files in the tоrrеnt to the ones in the zip, and the BMW.rar appears to be the only difference. So I followed the instructions and used that file when it asks to extract it, and ISTA is running. I can enter the VIN and it shows some of the info for my car. I haven't had a chance to try connecting to my car yet, maybe tomorrow.

Ista not reading the car.Stuck at Switch off the ignition or deactivate PAD and insert the driver's door seat belt belt buckle. and all modules are red. fix?

Yea got it working yesterday after doing the same. Thank you sir

BMW ISTA+ Standalone 4.57.21
Diagnostics + Programming workflow-ready setup • EN/DE

A practical ISTA+ Standalone 4.57.21 package prepared for everyday workshop-style use.
If you’re building a stable BMW diagnostic laptop or want a clean baseline for troubleshooting, this release keeps things simple: ISTA archive + config + install notes, plus a pointer for matching programming data.

Package contents
  • ISTA.rar — main ISTA+ package archive
  • ISTA+Standalone-4.57.21 config — configuration folder for the standalone setup
  • instal.txt — install notes / quick instructions
  • 4.57.21_PSdZData.7z.tоrrеnt — reference pointer for matching PSdZData (programming data)
Languages
  • German
  • English

Works with
  • ✅ D-CAN
  • ✅ ENET
  • ✅ ICOM

Why 4.57.21?
Because it’s a solid middle-ground build that’s popular for mixed fleets:
  • Good balance of features vs. “random new build surprises”
  • Comfortable for both diagnostics and typical programming workflows (with matching data)
  • A reliable reference version when comparing behavior across setups

Heads-up before you start
  • Use a machine with enough disk space (programming data is large).
  • Run as Admin where required and keep the install path simple.
  • Always pair ISTA+ with the matching PSdZData version for best compatibility.
