BMW DME/DDE Bench Lock Checker - MG1/MD1 DME8/DDE8 ENET Status Tool
BMW DME/DDE Bench Lock Checker is a lightweight Windows utility for checking the bench-lock status of supported BMW MG1 / MD1 engine control units, including DME8 and DDE8 generations.
The tool communicates directly over a BMW ENET connection, detects the vehicle, reads the VIN and reports whether the ECU is LOCKED, UNLOCKED / NOT LOCKED or temporarily unavailable because another diagnostic application is holding the session.
No EDIABAS installation or additional BMW diagnostic suite is required for the checker itself.
Key Features
Lock Status Results
The checker presents a clear result after communication with the supported control unit.
Possible states include:
LOCKED indicates that the detected ECU reports the bench-lock state handled by the current checker.
UNLOCKED / NOT LOCKED indicates that the ECU does not currently report that bench-lock condition.
PORT BUSY means another application or diagnostic session is using the required connection.
Port Busy Detection
If another BMW diagnostic or coding application already holds the communication session, the tool displays a clear PORT BUSY result instead of presenting an incorrect lock status.
Typical competing applications may include:
Close the competing session and run the check again.
Vehicle & ECU Detection
The utility can automatically locate the vehicle over ENET and display the detected VIN before running the lock-status check.
For supported dual-DME applications, the tool is designed to identify and display the relevant ECU targets separately.
This provides a quick pre-tuning check before deciding which bench service workflow or equipment is required for the detected ECU.
Bench Lock vs OBD Unlock
The utility checks the bench-lock state reported by the supported ECU.
A bench-level unlock can change the detected status, while an OBD-only unlock may not affect the bench-lock state displayed by this checker.
The tool should therefore be treated as a status checker, not as an ECU unlocking application.
It does not perform the unlock itself.
