Ford As-Built Compare Tool is a portable offline Windows utility for comparing two Ford or Mazda module-configuration files. It reads factory AB data and FORScan ABT files side by side, lets a technician select a module and makes hexadecimal or binary differences easier to review before an authorized coding or replacement procedure.
Supported vehicles, ECUs and files#
As-Built data records configuration values associated with a vehicle and its modules. Ford service documentation uses it as a backup source during programmable module installation when data cannot be retrieved from the original controller. The format can cover modules such as APIM, PCM, IPC, ABS and BCM, but available blocks vary by platform and not every module has restorable As-Built data.- Ford factory .ab files and FORScan .abt exports accepted by the application.
- Ford and Mazda configurations whose module identifiers exist in the included dictionary.
- Offline file comparison only; the program has no direct OBD or vehicle-coding connection.
Functions#
- Load a reference and a working configuration into separate panels.
- Select a known module by identifier and compare its address/value records.
- Switch between hexadecimal and binary views to expose individual bit differences.
- Save data in FORScan ABT format for a separate, controlled workflow.
System and hardware requirements#
- A Windows PC; the tool is portable and requires no vehicle driver for comparison.
- Two valid files from the same or deliberately compared platform and a reliable VIN/module context.
- FORScan, Ford service software or another approved tool only if changes will later be written to a vehicle.
- A battery support unit and original backups for any subsequent coding operation.
Recommended workflow#
- Archive the vehicle’s original As-Built export before opening a reference file.
- Confirm both files belong to the intended platform, select one module and document each difference.
- Consult service information before changing a bit; a difference can represent equipment, region, calibration or vehicle identity.
- If writing is necessary, change the minimum required block and rescan every affected module afterward.
