The archive label from the source folder mentioned a generic KKL cable, but the extracted application is FreeSSM and is published under its real identity. Compatibility depends on Subaru protocol generation: an inexpensive K-line cable can suit older ISO 9141-era vehicles, while later CAN-only vehicles require other software and hardware.

System, hardware and interface requirements​#

  • Windows PC or compatible environment for the supplied executable
  • Quality USB K-line/KKL interface with the correct FTDI or CH340 driver where applicable
  • Vehicle diagnostic connector with the SSM K-line present
  • Stable battery voltage for extended live-data sessions
  • Subaru wiring information and a second scan tool for unsupported modules

  • Confirm that the vehicle diagnostic connector provides the expected K-line
  • Install the cable driver and select the correct serial port
  • Connect to one controller at a time and record identification first

Compatibility limits and responsible use​#

  • Do not replace parts based on a code without electrical and mechanical testing

Troubleshooting​#

  • No connection: verify K-line presence, cable driver, serial port and ignition state
  • Engine connects but ABS does not: the secondary module may use a different protocol or be unsupported
  • Live data freezes: lower polling load and check interface quality and voltage
  • Fault returns immediately: diagnose the circuit instead of repeatedly clearing the code
  • Unreadable help pages: keep the doc directory beside the executable

File integrity and safety notes​#

The source archive was fully tested and extracted, and every nested container was tested where present. Native executables were inspected statically and were never launched during preparation. Keep an immutable original, work on copies, scan the package independently in an isolated environment and maintain a proven recovery route before writing a vehicle or module. An unsigned executable cannot be described as malware-free solely because its hashes and structure were audited.
